How do you tell your GM and friend that he just isn't that good

Whenever the game comes up in outside-the-game conversation, he believes it's going really well and that everyone is having fun. We have three other players chomping at the bit to run, but he seriously doesn't understand that no one is having anything resembling fun. Maybe we should just have...

How do you tell your GM and friend that he just isn't that good

As a player who's having a similar (yet very different) problem, I'm hoping to find some solace in this thread as well. Our current GM was a player with our group for about a year before he decided to volunteer to run the next game. My game was winding down, so after it reached a logical...

[Marvel Heroic Hack] Mass Effect Heroic Roleplay

Glad to see that someone's getting use out of this. :) I think Mass Effect works better in a more rules-lite system than Diaspora (or d20 Future or WH40k, as has been proposed).

[Marvel Heroic Hack] Mass Effect Heroic Roleplay

Also, nothing prevents a Player or Storyteller from customizing powers from the get-go to produce a more specific class. For instance, you could make a Krogan Battlemaster by using the base Vanguard and swapping out Pistol for Assault Rifle and using your custom SFX chosen during character...

[Marvel Heroic Hack] Mass Effect Heroic Roleplay

Just like in the base MHR game, a player can spend XP to add a new power to a powerset. For instance, the Sentinel could add a d6 Machine Pistol or Sniper Rifle for 10XP. Skill customization could pretty easily be done through adding new SFX to them. For example, someone playing an Engineer...

[Marvel Heroic Hack] Mass Effect Heroic Roleplay

Character Creation Process - Choose your Affiliation (Assign d6, d8, and d10 to Solo, Buddy, and Team). - Choose your Species. - Choose your Class. - Choose three Distinctions (related to your Race, Class, Theme, or Goal). - Choose one Specialty at Expert. - Add one extra SFX to one of your...

P.lease E.valuate A.nd C.ritique H.onestly. It may be a bit archaic these days, but it was all the rage in Ye Olden Times of EN World.

[Marvel Heroic Hack] Mass Effect Heroic Roleplay

Since finishing Mass Effect 3, I've been itching to run a tabletop version. I heard the usual advice: "Run d20 Future!", "Use Star Wars Saga!", and "Mutants and Masterminds would work.". I even got a few more corner-case suggestions: "Use Dread!", "What about Hollow Earth Expedition?", and "I...

I'm new to all of this

The best advice I can give is to go to the Gamers Seeking Gamers board and look for local groups who are seeking new players. It's hard to explain The Game to people without being able to actually see it in play. That or look for video blogs on YouTube of peoples' D&D campaigns.

Review of Players Option: Heroes of the Elemental Chaos

casino.org does game reviews? That makes no sense. Where are they on that site? What is going on?

    Ashamed of being a Gamer?

That makes very good sense. On the other hand, if someone above me is griefing me about my hobbies (or denying advancement based on that), I'd probably take them to HR.

    Ashamed of being a Gamer?

I think what the quoted poster meant was "A larger percentage of gamers are on the Autism Spectrum than the percentage of non-gamers on the Autism Spectrum.".

    Ashamed of being a Gamer?

I don't think it does, really. I grew up in the Midwest, in the middle of the Bible Belt. In high school, I was beat up on a weekly basis for my hobbies. I currently work in a highly regulated, professionally driven industry. My fiancee's family is very religious. I had over $200 in gaming...

    What weapon represents humanity?

Morningstar. It does bludgeoning and piercing damage. It's a Simple weapon. Humanity is all about adaptability. Very few regional and/or ethnic groups don't have a basic analog.

Character Generation - Stat Draft Method

If you're insisting on rolled stats, might I suggest my prefered method for such things?: - Each player rolls (4d6 drop lowest) seven times, dropping the lowest. These become potential Stat Arrays. - Everyone votes on which Stat Array to use. - Everyone uses the same Stat Array, but can arrange...

D&D 5E So why are you buying 5th edition?

I had a very long winded, angry reply typed up for your original post. Then I deleted it, because it would have been needlessly vitriolic and mean spirited. Here is the edited for clarity version: - Your slight towards my generation and those younger than me, whether passive-aggressively...

    Role-playing Games in Libraries

Lawrenceburg, IN isn't any better. Some friends and I were playing at a bar about 4 years ago and some 'necks decided to "accidentally" spill beer on our books as they walked by. Yeah, never playing in a bar again.

D&D 5E So why are you buying 5th edition?

I've bought every new version of D&D on launch day, 5e isn't going to be any different. Whether or not I buy a bunch of supplimental material is a completely different matter.

Playing the same character since 1985? Gwah?

I made mention of this thread to my cousin and he related a story about his uncle (other side of the family, obviously). The afore mentioned uncle and his play group meet monthly to play. They've been doing this since 1977. They've missed two sessions in that time: once because one of their...
