    D&D (2024) 4/26 Playtest: The Fighter

In place of endless arguments about which is the 'right' way to compare the old and new changes, why not simply run the analysis your favourite way so that an additional analysis is in the mix? Feats got boosted so it's looking likely that stat boosting feats are only going to be used...

D&D (2024) They butchered the warlock in the new packet

I browse the forums regularly and I see absolutely no consensus on what is and is not a dominant style of play. There are now tons of games to choose from and it would be silly to exclude certain playstyles, whether fading or not, by making all those games identical. D&D is experiencing a...

D&D (2024) The New Warlock spell progression + Eldritch Smite Invocation

The new rules for paladin smites would apply equally to warlock ones. There might be an issue with the knockdown on top but overall damage would be less than a Paladin, I suppose.

Yeah I'm not sure why either but I assume it is because otherwise you just have daily or at-will and that too could have balance problems.

    D&D (2024) Warlock spell poll.

I put half caster but I would prefer the current system with 3 pact spell slots coming sooner and a 10 minute ritual to refresh 2/long rest.

D&D (2024) They butchered the warlock in the new packet

I think this argument is a bit disingenuous though. The game is collaborative. Often, people complaining that the DM doesn't let them short rest will be the same people complaining that the rest of the group won't agree to take a long rest. If players have a play style that treats their...

D&D (2024) They butchered the warlock in the new packet

Resource management is part of the game. I usually get to take one and occasionally two short rests during an adventure but even with a magic wand, and the shadow touched feat, my PC still felt a bit light on spell choice/use. Different classes benefit more in different adventure styles but a...

    D&D (2024) Warlock Dips

It sort of feels that, thematically, paladin smites shouldn't work with pact of the blade. You only gain the new attack stat by invoking the power of some unearthly being while you only get to smite by invoking your devotion to a different being. It kind of feels like they should be either / or...

D&D (2024) They butchered the warlock in the new packet

Yeah but Warlocks were definitely not intended to be the nova spell casting class. Quite the opposite. And despite that, they were hugely popular. Also, the power of this build would depend on spell access. The new version has access to the same spells as wizards. I don't think that is...

D&D (2024) They butchered the warlock in the new packet

They do seem to be introducing a limited daily selection as well, to pad out the warlock's slots: 1 free casting from your pact list per day. 1 free casting of any spell obtained via mystic arcanum. There are options that might work to pad out spell casting without massively overpowering the...

D&D (2024) They butchered the warlock in the new packet

It's the ability to cast too many high level spells in the same encounter that is the issue if you simply triple the slots. A 10 minute ritual recharge seems seems more sensible and in keeping with existing mechanics.

    D&D (2024) 4/26 Playtest: The Fighter

Exactly. Spellcasters can still cast a spell and then follow up with some other heroic action. Putting forward an argument that the low level fighter ability should make you a better wizard seems a bit disingenuous.

D&D (2024) They butchered the warlock in the new packet

If rituals take 10 minutes, surely a 10 minute ritual is the way to go for a recharge of spell slots?

D&D (2024) They butchered the warlock in the new packet

So, if Warlock spell recovery is just moved from short rest to a class feature useable twice per long rest, they get pact spells that they automatically know (plus 1 free casting per day), and multi-classing confirms that pact magic slots do not count as spell slots for the purposes of class...

    D&D (2024) 4/26 Playtest: The Fighter

A change to action surge was a no-brainer. Are people annoyed that they changed it all or are they unhappy at the way it was changed? I would have thought the only thing they needed to exclude was casting a spell/magic action? Multi-class fighters can still cast a spell with their first...

D&D (2024) Speculation on the next UA in April

As someone who has been playing for 30+ years, I think this edition does a great job of representing many different 'classic' types of rogue. While I agree that you could give added support to other archetypes, I'm not sure what form that could or should take. I don't see people complaining...

D&D (2024) Speculation on the next UA in April

For me, it's more of a case that there are different classic rogue archetypes that should all be equally playable and therefore equally common. If dual wielding has no opportunity cost, will there ever be any circumstance in which a player would not play a dual wielding rogue? Any other...

D&D (2024) How should the Warlord be implemented in 1DnD?

A good start would be to remove proficiency in persuasion and replace it the fighter manoeuvre that boosts charisma checks fuelled by superiority dice that could also give access to battlemaster manoeuvres. Even 1d4 or 1d6 dice could nudge banneret towards a more full fledged warlord.
