    D&D 5E Was I in the wrong?

Yes, I have read it, several times. Why would the OP even mention the phone use if it was not related to the story?

    D&D 5E Was I in the wrong?

The out of game activity is being on the phone. Or do you consider me telling a player that I went and saw the movie and drank a Pepsi as being something the character said. Quit playing the words game. The OP clearly states that one player is using his phone and expresses his dislike of...

    Exactly !

    D&D 5E Was I in the wrong?

Just like its stupid to assume players would willingly sell a ring with armor without finding out its value. Don't forget this little gem from the OP: "they wanted to check the ring and gauntlets." That, without any doubt in my mind, shows that they did not intend to sell the ring and...

    D&D 5E Was I in the wrong?

Just like there are ways that the player, taking the armor out of the backpack or whatever they are using, would have seen and been reminded of the odd sight of a gauntlet with a ring (not a typical gauntlet). As the purpose is to sell the armor for money, they would also recognize that a ring...

    D&D 5E Was I in the wrong?

Why wouldn't he? If he doesn't know they are valuable, its no big deal to him if players buy the gear back with maybe a little extra for his troubles. He's still making money. DM screwed the players, pure and simple, in an act to punish players for out of game activity.

    D&D 5E Was I in the wrong?

Interesting that you quote everything that might fight your scenario, but when it comes to the part that shows they obviousely did not intend to sell the gauntlet and ring with the armor you instead rephrase it to fit your scenario. "It was then, when they wanted to check the ring and gauntlets...

    D&D 5E Was I in the wrong?

He didn't recognize the value, but there is no way that he'll sell the items back to them for a small profit for doing nothing? Yeah...still don't buy it. The DM screwed over the players.

    D&D 5E Was I in the wrong?

Why do you presume that players would sell armor as a set (who quickly after say they want to have the ring and gauntlets checked out as their next step in town) wanted to sell the armor and ring and gauntlets as one package without noticing that it was included? The fact that the players said...

Exactly. This a thousand times over.

    D&D 5E Was I in the wrong?

Using that as how its presented is ridiculous. Having a blacksmith that knows nothing about the items to be sold yet immediately recognizes its value after the sale is ridiculous when its placed in the same scenario that the DM is mad at players for out of game activity.

    D&D 5E Was I in the wrong?

You also have to keep in mind that the players do not have "hands on" what they find in the game or what they do. Just like the scenario presented earlier where a player says that he is charging the enemy but the DM says you fall into a pit that you forgot and die is actually very similar to...

    D&D 5E Was I in the wrong?

It was effectively an omission, though. The DM was clearly more than willing to let the players sell valuable items for nothing even close to their actual value. The blacksmith doesn't know that the items are valuable, yet immediately after selling them the blacksmith (played by the DM) now...

    D&D 5E Was I in the wrong?

The way the original poster stated how he described the items makes it seem almost like there is nothing anymore special to it than the armor. The players should have been given a better idea that the ring and gauntlet were more than just part of a set of armor. The ring in particular wouldn't...

    D&D 5E Was I in the wrong?

It seems pretty rough on the players. Its not just the phone guy who is affected, but everybody in the party. I would have some hard feelings if a player made a minor error (Are you selling everything here..yes) and they lost out on the rewards of some major loot.

D&D 5E [GUIDE] Thy Fearful Symmetry: A Circle of the Moon Handbook (original)

I would think the hiccup with adding something like bladesinger is that it makes your need for stats go up significantly. You are now adding INT to the mix, and needing that INT to be high to get a noticeable benefit. I'd rather focus on having a high WIS, CON, and DEX over INT. It also seems...

    DDEX3-10 Quelling the Horde *Spoilers*

It's definitely a difficult adventure. Even at level 4 it was quite a challenge for 4 characters (2 barbarians, a fighter and a sorcerer (plus a paladin for the first half) The scarecrows were no problem, courtesy of the sorcerer and fire spells. The initial goblins weren't too bad for us...

D&D 5E [GUIDE] Playing Dice with the Universe: A Slant Guide to Wild-Magic Sorcerer

Wild Mages need another outlet to garner more surges. Shame there wasn't a spell or something of the like that would make a required roll.

    Dwarvin Polearm build--HELP PLEASE

Jeebus.....+2 chainmail at level 3? You should be very happy with that. Chain mail is AC 16, with the bonus it gives AC 18. It weighs 55 lbs. Plate is AC 18, weighs 65 lbs and costs 1,500 gold. Doesn't seem like you'd be gaining anything.
