How long do your gaming sessions last?

We generally play for 4-6 hours. Mind you we usually have a meal in there, so actual play time is more like 2-5 hours. A lot depends on what kinds of mood the kids are in. Screaming kids really detract from gaming.

Which On-line SRD do you use?

I like the layout of the S/S SRD. I keep the SRD around for searching and for when I don't want to pull out my books.

CR of non-monster NPCs and enemies

    My gaming group has three PCs, so I have to figure out non-standard CRs all the time. Here's the formula I use to find the CRs of both sides: p = CR {if CR < =2} or 2^(CR/2) {if CR > 2} EL = SIGMA(p) {if SIGMA(p) < =2} or 2 * ln (SIGMA(p))/ln(2) {if SIGMA(p) > 2} It looks complicated, but I...

    d&d EDUCATION

These ideas are great. Now if I can just remember/implement them when my kids are old enough... Pat, do you have a website showing how you did this?

    Looking for a Litorian miniature...

There are at least three that I know of. There are two common (?) miniatures from the WOTC Miniatures - one is a cat person archer (Catfolk http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/mg/20040203a), the other is a cat person with two sais. Reaper has Cleo Goldpaws (1-02140)...

Adventures--Do you run them or cannabalize them?

I make changes, but not so many that the module is unrecognizable. As I've become more confident, I'm winging it more and more. Basically my players wander around encountering plot hooks until they bite at one, then I run that adventure. Depending on what plot points they leave dangling, I...

    Non-dunegon crawl mega modules?

What about Shackled City from Paizo? From the parts I've read, there seems to be a fair variety of locales.

    More time gaming or ENWorlding?

I spend a lot more time on ENWorld, probably 9 hours for every hour of gaming. Mind you, my group is getting more and more into gaming, so with time that ratio may shift.

How did you learn to GM?

I taught myself. I live out in the boonies - outside of a town with a population of 600. I bought a D&D boxed set a long time back, but never actually played it. In high school, I ran a oneshot each of Cyberpunk 2020 and another RPG for a friend, but it fell pretty flat. About two years ago...

Introducing fantasy RPGs to religious players

I had a similar problem with some of my players. It's largely because of their difficulties with gods, demons, and such that I used Arcana Unearthed/Evolved. Gods play such a minor part in that setting that it's easy to just ignore them completely. Now that the players have been gaming for a...

Looking for advice from parents: Gaming with baby

I would say that a lot depends on the baby. When our eldest was a baby, he was more than content to just lie there. Our daughter demanded lots of attention - right now! Our youngest loves to grab stuff, so he couldn't be near the gaming table but was fine otherwise. I've found that gaming...

How to DM your first game (Long)

As a fairly new DM, I think the advice given here is very good. Have you considered submitting it to roleplayingtips.com?

What's the Male/Female composition of the group? 2 Male/2 Female 5.) Got a good gamestore near you and what is it? Gameknight is pretty good - I order a lot of stuff...

Steverooo, that list was great. I got a bunch of ideas from it. Thank you.

In the event of a TPK...?

The one TPK I've had was due to a bunch of sloppy mistakes on my part and on the players' part. They were dead, dead, dead. It was a fairly straightforward encounter so I just rewound and we played through the encounter again.

The essence of fire continues to fascinate Jaret, but he stays well away from the zombies.

(Adventure) Heroes of The Vesper Peaks (Uriel judging)

Jaret looks around at the rest of the room. If the servant of Seto moves to uncover whatever is covered, he will look away and shield his eyes for a few seconds. The liquid essence of fire fascinates him. If he can do so without attracting undue attention from the undead, he will try to...

    Andromeda: Does It Get Better?

Actually, it gets worse. In the next season, they abandon the plot so that the Dylan can do his own imitation of Kirk. Continuity within the series is dropped. Don't waste your time.

An open "Thank you" to Erik Mona

Keep up the good work. I subscribed for a year to see if it was worth it and I plan on renewing my subscription next paycheck. May the best of your past be the worst of your future!

    Insted of Will Save...

I would love to see more maps. Another alternative might be art - pictures can help inspire ideas. Maybe a column with non-rpg books and their uses in gaming?
