For life advice, I'm okay with it, but it doesn't come across as the best advertisement to grow the hobby. EDIT: "Oh, you will have a great time, just ignore the misogyny and marginalization that comes with playing."

Is "wear your asbestos armor" supposed to be serious advice to anyone who wants to play a fun game?

The "dwarves and hobbits go to the whorehouse" is offensive to whomever is offended, regardless of gender. If the specific individual happens to be a woman, the existence of 50 Shades makes no difference...even if she read and enjoyed it. If she partakes in that sort of humor regularly, then...

Oh, I have no doubt that skills can, and in some cases do, facilitate the circumvention of roleplaying, but that does not equate to the prevention of roleplaying.

Actually, Derren's first statement is correct. It is a totally false claim that having skills prevents roleplaying.

While I have run and played in published modules in the late 80s/early 90s, I've participated in none of these.

I walked into a crowded room and said, "I play Pathfinder." I spent the next few minutes describing what it is that I play, including the use of the phrase - it's like Dungeons & Dragons. Now replace the word Pathfinder with GURPS, Savage Worlds, Vampire: The Masquerade, Fate, Hackmaster, etc...

Nada. It will be invested in by multiple members if my group, though.

It has classes, levels, hit points...for starters. While I will play what the group wants, and the group is a D&D group, I don't like D&D (or games with similar mechanics).

Very unlikely. Odds are that our group will play it, but I don't plan to buy the books.

If anyone in my game has Fate or Fudge dice, that would be great. Cindy's and the girls' sets are packed, so I am a set short.

Cindy & I are also bringing plastic cups.
