WotC Rodney and Mearls: custom NPCs so easy

40 minutes without good references for TWO NPCs with class levels? That's pretty fast IMHO. I've created my fair share of NPCs for Living Greyhawk and it's NOT a fast process. This sounds GREAT! If I could get myself down to 20-30 min per NPC (for published adventures) I'd make joyful noises!

Nice. Very interesting subjective evaluation of the system.

The Devil's in the Details: Slavicsek reveals the Pit Fiend in all its glory

Well, given that they are described as "the undisputed lords of the baatezu" in the 3.5 MM and there are unique devils, I think they might make an appearance. Also, while the mechanics were 3.5, there was an article in D&DI that talked about some unique devils. I recall that those articles...

The Devil's in the Details: Slavicsek reveals the Pit Fiend in all its glory

FWIW, The thing I want out of the MM (or any monster description) is what the damn thing can do in a fight. Any social skills I can give it as I feel appropriate to suit the situation. I dislike the 3.x method of allocating skill points and trying to hook up classes to get the skills I want...

The Devil's in the Details: Slavicsek reveals the Pit Fiend in all its glory

Where are you getting that the unique dukes and devils are gone? They're mentioned in W&M. So are Cornugons (or was it Malebranche?).

The Devil's in the Details: Slavicsek reveals the Pit Fiend in all its glory

I'd bet my bottom dollar that, if you don't want the "garden variety" Pit fiend you can tweak it to your liking. While the damage output seems low, I'm sure it factors in to hp allocation at that level. It's not really fair to compare it to 3e. It's like comparing 1e Loth to 3e PCs. She...

    Appreciate a Dragon Day

It is good of The Rouse to show favor to lesser beings, such as lobby dragons. (I have to admit, I laughed pretty hard at the Adamantine Dragon facebook) The Rouse again proves why he is the Brand Manager of Legend.

Worlds & Monsters -- I has it, too!

Those are DDM concept sketches IIRC. I'm looking foreward to seeing the art in W&M...if only my FLGS would get it in...

FR Update at WotC-Year of the Ageless One

You're ok. I don't think anyone can be wrong for what race they choose to play as.

Efreeti is the plural (that I know of) and they have a Sultan.

FR Update at WotC-Year of the Ageless One

It was the whole "The new setting does not advance this plot, it shoot this plot between the eyes" thing that seemed hyperbolic. I'd say that's an exaggeration used for emphasis. And yes, they are using hyperbole to sell the new Realms, no doubt.

FR Update at WotC-Year of the Ageless One

That's some fantastic hyperbole there man. We were given a snippet of information that Thay had a moutain range stuffed up its butt and you're acting like it's the end all things. Wasn't it also stated that Ssazz Tamm is still kicking about? And hey, holy crap, there just might be part of that...

FR Update at WotC-Year of the Ageless One

Why can't we all just love each other? Sigh. FWIW, I would not base the potential sales of 4E FR stuff off of the reaction on Candlekeep or the wotc boards for a minute. Especially wotc-it's the same 5 knotheads ranting on for 25 pages. It seems like foaming hysteria over there. ENworld may...

D&D 4E WotC_Rodney: 4ed "take only what you want" monster design good

I'd say there's probably some sort of formula at work. Each role will probably have a set of guidelines for advancement. Giving more freedom to DMs in regards to creature design is a great thing, IMHO.

Rich Baker on the Spellplague and other stuff.

The Jay Z / Alan Thicke remark was quite pithy as well. Back on topic- As a someone who just started learning in-depth about the Realms last year (aside from Salvatore's books) I find these changes refreshing. The amount of whining, screaming, and general bad conduct over these changes on...

Worlds & Monsters -- I has it, too!

It's actually "your weak sauce" not "you're weak sauce" from the implied usage your sentence. Back on topic-Raven Queen is a little generic. When I initially read it I figured she was a death goddess. Once I found out she IS a death goddess, I reckoned the name got the job done. She can...

    Podcast up

That's not a very accurate statement. It's akin to saying, "3.x isn't about DM creativity. It's about following all the rules all the time." Neither of those statements are fair or true. The Devs have stated on a couple occasions that they don't want items that simply enhance a stat...

    Chris Sims on the FRCG

In the Dragon preview article Rich Baker said the Mythals protected some major sites, others weren't hit as hard. I'm pretty sure, when I referenced Mythals, one of their features was "protection from writers". That's got to be it.
