D&D 5E My D&D Next Experience at DDXP

Maybe, but all that feature does is put Clerics on a list of classes I'd never play.

D&D 5E How quickly should ability scores increase in 5e?

I REALLY liked 4e's rate of advancement. You started off a hero and grew into an epic badass... I really loved that, how the experience changed over time and eventually you became superheroic, and you could do it without Wishes, books or decking yourself out with magic items. It made for great...

Seminar Transcript - Reimagining Skills and Ability Scores

I'm hoping the stuff about hard-capping ability scores and "mortal limits" doesn't make it into the final version of the game. I liked that my character grew from a slightly above average person to a literal demi-god with ability scores in the 20s or even 30s. I don't want to have to have stat...

Seminar Transcript - Reimagining Skills and Ability Scores

Hmmm... Just as much excites me as disappoints me. I like themes being integral parts of the game. I like the idea of a lot of things being taken care of without a roll (though sometimes those rolls can be hilarious when they go poorly, but I also understand the chance of that discourages many...

    DDXP Begins Today!

Under that logic, a Ranger is just a fighter with woodsy skills and a Paladin is just a fighter that got religion. Though maybe that would be fine with you... Personally, I like them as different classes as that frees up the classes to exemplify those archetypes mechanically without also having...

    DDXP Begins Today!

You probably are, as WotC has pretty much stated their target audience is everyone who has played D&D, ever. Thing is, I don't understand why content that will make other players happy should be making you unhappy in what is being touted as a modular game, especially when its the height of...

    I don't DM 4th edition, but when I do

Not quite the right analogy. If you KILLED the dog that ate your homework and carved it open, you might find enough bits of soggy paper to at least copy back parts of what you wrote. At the very least you'd still have paper. As a key component of the construction of magic items (along with the...

D&D 5E My thoughts on 5e (mostly martial power source)

I hope fighters retain abilities that go beyond "I attack," even if its an optional add-on system. Having played a 3.5 fighter and found it to be the most bored I've been playing an RPG, ever, and having played a 4e fighter and had an absolute blast, I'm never going back. 4e fighters play the...

D&D 5E Which version of D&D would you like 5E to resemble most? (poll version)

Since the poll asked what I'd LIKE it to look like, I choose the most self-aggrandizing option, which is to make it look like 4e. However, I think in reality it'll look a lot like BECMI with 3e and 4e add-on modules to taste.

Does anybody else miss 1st L Characters

Except I never discussed excluding any style of play. Zero level play as the "gritty" level(s) is inclusive of everyone and no one ever has to skip level one. *shrug* Whatever. It remains to be seen what Wizards actually does. Maybe we'll both be wrong.

Does anybody else miss 1st L Characters

The thing is they need to find a way to appeal to both audiences, or they'll lose just as many 4e players as they gain in players of older editions. Finding a way to make both happy probably has to be a priority. I'm pretty sure they'll find a way to accomodate 4e players without forcing us to...

Does anybody else miss 1st L Characters

The ship has already left on the changing the D&D paradigm thing. 4th did it. If 4th hadn't done things slightly differently, no one would be questioning the mook 1st level paradigm. And I still feel like 4th level characters are beginners while not being boring to play and dying so quickly that...

Does anybody else miss 1st L Characters

Four, technically. And in a way, yeah... We're looking for a comprimise here, aren't we? Something that gives one segment what they want while leaving the other segment feeling like they get what they want to. Level 1 is important, even if its just the idea of it. If I could have my personal...

Does anybody else miss 1st L Characters

Nice try turning my words back around on me, except that's not actually the case at all. It doesn't work at all in reverse, because with zero level as the gritty levels, players who want to play that way DON'T HAVE TO SKIP ANYTHING. You start at 0 and play on through, experiencing everything...

Does anybody else miss 1st L Characters

I don't understand why making the gritty part level 0 is such a problem. It seems to me that wanting it to be level 1 seems to be not only wanting to get your preference but to make sure said preference is foisted on as many people as possible even if they don't share that preference.

Does anybody else miss 1st L Characters

I think lots of people SEE playing at level 1 as mandatory... And newer players who should be eased into the system but shouldn't necessarily be slaughtered wholesale while they're learning the ropes, as Keterys is speaking to, are likely to start at level 1 without understanding that maybe they...

Does anybody else miss 1st L Characters

I wonder if including 0-level play as an optional add-on would make both crowds happy. Those who want the novice zero-to-hero thing could start at 0 level (and there might be a couple of sub-levels or whatever so there could be growth period during that play) and those who just want to start as...

Does anybody else miss 1st L Characters

I wouldn't mind lower hit points at first, but I would hate Wizards without some sort of at will spell option so they don't have to resort to a crossbow (or sling, or whatever).

Core Classes: What and how many

I'd love to see the 3.5 PHB class list plus the Warlord for 4e fans. I doubt there's going to be a significant class consolidation because I seriously doubt WotC will be trying to slay any sacred cows in this edition. This will be the "all sacred cows shall live" edition, and we may even see...
