D&D (2024) Is anyone going to use the new 2024 backgrounds?

I'm pretty sure I have customized the background for nearly every character I have ever made for 5e. I did this by taking an existing background and tweaking it, usually swapping out a skill or a tool for a different one. (Important to note that no DM has ever objected to me doing this, nor...

D&D 5E Feats AND Ability increases?

I don't recall where I read/heard this, but I am reasonably confident it is the case. I remember it being stated as a specific design decision to make it so players don't feel like they are completely "missing out" on ASI when they take a feat. I can't think of any reason why they would...

D&D 5E Feats AND Ability increases?

In the 2024 rules, all feats give +1 ASI, except for Origin Feats and Fighting Styles. So just get rid of the +2 ASI feat and have PCs gain +1 ASI every time they gain a feat after 1st level. Or if you prefer, remove the +1 ASI from all feats and just give the PCs +2 ASI whenever they gain a feat.

    D&D General Neolithic D&D

Time periods are virtually meaningless without context. And to give us that context, the OP mentioned the Neolithic, which is a specific reference to an era of human social and technological development on Earth; and also specifically pointed to Gobleki Tepe and Catalhoyuk, archaeology sites...

D&D (2024) D&D Background and Origin Feat Article

I feel like I'm in the minority here, but I agree. I'm sad to see them abandoning the idea of Traits, Ideal, Flaw, and Bond. Even if they got rid of the background specific tables or whatever, I like having those entries on the character sheet and as a part of character creation, because they're...

D&D (2024) D&D Background and Origin Feat Article

Yeah, to me those are very different backgrounds that would provide very different benefits. I think the Sage is pretty close to a Wizard's Apprentice? At least as far as the benefits you get.

This is shameful erasure of non-woolly mammoths.

Sure, now a shovel costs 10,000 GP, but mysteriously I can buy it for 8,000 GP. I don't see how crashing the economy with a gold-explosion affects this particular feature.

D&D (2024) D&D Background and Origin Feat Article

Money is an abstraction, but coins are not. They physically exist. Abstracted money systems exist in other TTRPGs, like Purchase DCs in d20 Modern, but that's not how money works in D&D.

    D&D General Neolithic D&D

I toyed with some ideas for Neolithic D&D back in 3.x. (And maybe even in 2e? I don't even remember, lol.) More recently I've been tinkering with a Bronze Age setting idea, which actually brought up some of the same questions and concerns. I'm going to reiterate what others have said and...

D&D (2024) D&D Background and Origin Feat Article

HPs are an abstraction, though, while GPs are a thing that physically exists in the game world. My character literally has 27 pieces of actual gold currency in their possession. They don't literally have "27 Hit Points."
