Sorry. 18 on the roll, +1 from variant human and right now +1 from heavy armor master. That's 20. 5+proff bonus is 7, and 5 damage from my str mod. I'm still pretty sold on heavy armor master even if I went shield, I'd just grab the shield at level 4 and consider going oath of the ancients.

I do like the looks of sword and board- specially for the character who is supposed to be a Viking type character. But my Dm has also let me move a polearm to one hand, draw a javelin and chuck it. hrrrrrrrrrrm.

I like the RP suggestion. It is helping me refine "who" he or she is. And yeah that doesn't make the most sense. I will talk to the DM about it and have that influence my choice a bit. In the mean time of course I'll aim at the excellent Dex. Though I can always "accept" an 18/18 character...

Ive been thinking wood elf. I think some of the decent feats give a floating +1 to wis. (I want to say resilient) And I am open to going all Dex. I'd be able to use scimis instead. And shar shooter DOES look fantastic.
