    D&D 1E Common House Rules for AD&D?

We never attempted to do the weapon vs. armor type rules. One DM made illusionists use the same rules as magic-users for writing spells into spell books. My illusionist got blown up ('dead splat' as we used to say) doing that. I complained about that in another thread. Had one DM who...

Why is the Gish so popular with players?

Here's a take on Elric for 3.5: The Fiendblade by Ari Marmell. It's a fighter with summoning points to summon demons and the like. Also has sneak attack so you are having fun flanking the opponent once you beam in a demon or two. I've not played the class as a PC, but have been using it as an...

RPG Crowdfunding News - Caverns of Thracia, Bizarre Kingdoms, d12 Monthly, and more

I like the amount of detail on the minis. The plastic is flexible like Bones.

Spoilers Star Wars: The Acolyte [Spoilers]

I've watched the first 4 episodes after reading about the review bombs. It is certainly not as bad as the audience reviews (bombs) make it out to be. I'm enjoying it, but to be honest it is really hard for somebody to make something Star Wars I wouldn't like. That said, after watching the 4th...

    D&D 1E Favorite Obscure Rules from TSR-era D&D

Correct. We researched a spell called Recall Spirit to be able to raise/resurrect elves because you couldn't with Raise Dead and Resurrection. BTW...BigElf isn't the problem, but the Illuminati is run by elves so you are sort of right. I remember losing our gnome illusionist thief in one...

Give the thief evasion. Won't help with falling off cliffs, but should with exploding traps and the like.

D&D 1E How do you play an illusionist?

I played 2 Illusionists in 1E. The first one got blown up due to a capricious and abritrary DM (I recounted that here.) The second one made it to 15th or 16th level. Phantasmal Force was the go to first level spell. The DM handled illusions that dealt damage (phantasmal force lightning bolt...

There's the prestige ranger in UA. You only get 7 levels of casting over 15 levels, but it may be the flavor you want. Calm Animals is one of the pre-reqs. Druid or animal domain.

    D&D 1E Favorite Obscure Rules from TSR-era D&D

It's ok. I rolled up an illusionist in a different campaign and didn't have that issue with the other DM. Thinking about it, I'm DMing my grown kids in a 3.5 campaign. Some NPC should send them on a quest to find Geb's bones to be relics or for resurrection.
