My Paladin killed a.. 2nd thread (The Verdict is IN - p4)

An eye-opening and cliche-bending thread. Very informative, especially to someone like me, who always eschewed playing a paladin b/c I felt they were too limited in outlook and thus, too limited in action. How wrong I was. Good work.

    "older" gamers

If there is a Gaming Store around, many times they have an area in the store with a bulletin board where you can post that you are looking for a game -- or better yet, a website where you can post as well -- which is how I found my last 2 gaming groups after moving to new towns. Both times I...

How to believably deal with missing players??

In our current campaign, the DM keeps all of the player sheets after each session. If anyone is missing from the next session, he will hand that sheet to another player to run for the day. We all use the same standardized character sheet for ease of reference, that way we all know where stuff...

    D&D 101: A lesson in fun

Back to the posters original, original point: I think we can all agree that no matter what the math is, if DM's are either 1) sloppy or 2) perversely sadistic in creating encounters for their particular party, then the game can rapidly become no fun. And for me, as a player, this doesn't just...

Trying to find an image of the armor from S3: Expedition to the Barrier Peaks

Are you talking about the full suit of power armor picture?

Electrum Pieces: Do you still use them?

I still use electrum in my campaigns. 2 - to - 1 gp ratio. My "backstory" on ep's and pp's are that they were once more common coins of a past fallen empire -- so they turn up in old hoards of treasure, or found by luck squirreled away in far off forgotten locales -- and are not generally...

How much is a D&D mini worth?

I'd pay .50 - $1.00 each for just common monsters, which is all I'd really be interested in. My use for them would be on the battleboard to support the pen and paper RPG, not the minis game (which I find to be boring). I'd love to buy a pack of 10, or a dozen or 20 common bad guys (lizard men...

First Look at the Complete Divine

Ugh, looks like I may just have to add this book to the ever-growing "Want to Buy" list.

    City Based Campaign Resources

I'll put my 2 cents in for "Lankhmar, City of Adventure" an AD&D 2nd edition supplement that described the ins and outs of arguably the most famous city in all of early sword & sorcery literature: Lankhmar, the City of the Black Toga. This town was the setting for Fritz Leiber's "Fafhrd and the...

    Pet peeves of D&D gaming

    1) If an entire game session goes by and I never make a single roll of the dice, I feel cheated. Sorry if this makes me a "roll player", but that's that. 2) Players who don't know basic info about their feats, spells, or other abilities and have to look it up over and over. 3) DM's who would...

    Jon Favreau

I always found him to be a talented and funny guy. Good to know he's got gamer roots.

    training

In the vast majority of the campaigns I have run, I do not require any sort of training. I will not allow leveling up in media res (no leveling between Orc Barracks Room 1 and Orc Barracks Room 2, for example), but otherwise I'll allow free leveling once the party is out of danger and the...

    Warhammer Redux

From the Green Ronin release: "Warhammer Fantasy Role-Play, 2nd edition, is scheduled for Spring, 2005. Games based on other Games Workshop properties, as well as major licensed products, are also in development" I can only say WOOOHOOO! Welcome back Warhammer! This RPG gem has been on the...

Why we love D&D but hate d20

D20 Rifts would be like regular D20 'cept you start out at level 15 or so.... ;)

    d20 or Bust?

Amen to that. D20 CoC felt like it was lacking soul compared to the original BRP version. I just can't wrap my little pea-brain around the concept of "leveling up" in a CoC campaign. If played in the classic style no PC is going to be around long enough to qualify for all the cool feats, etc...

    d20 or Bust?

I'm trying to branch out our gaming group to Paranoia or non-d20 Call of Cthulhu, but everyone pretty much wants to stick to d20. I guess there is a learning curve, but really, how hard is it to learn some of the simpler systems out there? I mean, we all figured out (or think we figured out)...
