    Sample Character request: Warrior/Mage

I don't see it here, and it seems to me like anything you did for your character's basic attack can only be improved by folding it into an at-will power. In other words, I'm saying that I won't believe that it's the same as an at-will unless I see it.

    Sample Character request: Warrior/Mage

I would've liked for 1 wizard at-will and 1 fighter at-will, and then a 50%-50% split for all the other powers. And then I would've liked to use my sword as an implement, or somehow resolve the weapon/implement problem. You know, a gish.

Will magic implements + magic weapons make high level multiclassing unfeasible?

Uhm, after playing with the rules for a bit, I think that more to the point: multiclassing doesn't work. If you want one token power from another class, you can do it, but you have to jump through a zillion hoops. If you really want to multiclass, forget it.

    Sample Character request: Warrior/Mage

Wizard of the Spiral Tower doesn't work Just a quick note. Lots of our gish characters use the Wizard of the Spiral Tower paragon path. This doesn't work, because p171, your longsword counts as an implement that you've specialized in. However, you can't specialize in an implement unless you're...

    Ranger > Warlock

Wrong guess. I was playing red box in 1984.

D&D 4E The Quest to use the Half-Elf's Dilettante (4e spoilers)

Some of us have been taking "Lay on Hands". I know, I know, they may not have intended it. But it's an at-will, it's a power. Other bizarre choices: wizard cantrip, or high-level rogue utility powers like shadow stride or chameleon.

    Sample Character request: Warrior/Mage

Haven't read the whole thread, but I also like gish characters. I think they need to make a gish class, but with what we have right now, there's two possibilities I'm kinda thinking of. One is to gish with the Wizard class. This is what this post is about. The other is to gish with the warlock...

    Ranger > Warlock

I'm not gonna make a complete rogue to answer this question, but my sense is that rogue is between lock and ranger. But let's do a quick back-of-the-envelope comparison at level 10. pluses: rogue d8 backstabs with the feat (instead of d6 for lock), and rogue backstab at level 10 is 2d8 instead...

Unintended +3 to hit (questionable phrasing?) SOLVED: p275

Oh, good catch. So I think you have to read very tightly: "proficiency bonus... from your weapon" and "associated keyword". From this tight reading, the only possible bonuses are 1) from a feat, proficiency (if there's a weapon tag) and 2) from the item itself, enhancement (if there's a weapon...

Unintended +3 to hit (questionable phrasing?) SOLVED: p275

Good catch. I think they forgot to put that boilerplate in the spiral tower blurb.

Unintended +3 to hit (questionable phrasing?) SOLVED: p275

Like I say, I think they didn't mean to give +3 to hit with spells, but I can't find anywhere that says what you say. I haven't seen anywhere that lists which bonuses apply when you have the WEAPON keyword, and which bonuses don't apply when you lack the WEAPON keyword.

    Ranger > Warlock

No, you're not getting it. Just because the lock has a corner case where this works out okay, doesn't mean that the ranger can't use tactics. The ranger has lots of powers that immobilize, weaken, stun, etc... And these obviously have tactical use. It's just that your team mates can make use of...

    Ranger > Warlock

Yeah, I think if you use exactly the right power, and everybody in the party acts according to your plan, and they all use an action point, and they burn a couple of dailies each... Then there are some power combinations where the warlock's net damage is competitive with the ranger's. Woo.

Unintended +3 to hit (questionable phrasing?) SOLVED: p275

EDIT: Proficiency bonus doesn't add to Implement keywords. p.275 reads "You gain the proficiency bonus only when using powers that have the weapon keyword." Wizard of the Spiral Tower, Corellon's Implement (11th level): Choose an arcane implement that you specialize in, whether the wand, staff...

    Ranger > Warlock

Rangers are very mobile, but the flavor is different of course. I think if you compare mobility between the classes, it's a wash: rangers can move much further (lots of abilities that increase speed), while locks can teleport a bit. Yes, see "Forest Ghost", a daily that lasts until the end of...

    Ranger > Warlock

Rangers have arguably more AoE than locks. First off, most ranger abilities can have 2 targets, which is better than locks who mostly target 1 target. Second, there is the most kickass AoE stuff in the Ranger tree. For instance, spray of arrows, daily 9, attacks everyone in a close blast 3, for...

    Ranger > Warlock

The AC is 22: 10, +5 level, +3 stat, +2 armor, +2 armor enh bonus. +3 magic items start at level 11 or higher. If everybody has +3 items, everything cancels (the +AC is canceled by +to hit) except that the ranger will gain damage, because of his iterative attacks. (old skool!) You're mixing...

    Ranger > Warlock

For the ranger encounter powers, minimum damage is Hawk's talon at 11. Max damage is two-fanged strike, 2x 1d10+9, then +4, total=42. For the lock encounter powers, minimum damage is Diabolic Grasp at 9. Max damage is either Fiery Bolt or Infernal Moon Curse, both maxing at 26. I'm looking at...
