D&D 5E Merwin said it better than Schwalb

Yes! Rules are just guidelines... 90% of my games work that way, no optimization, no munchkins, no brokeness... in some cases we do not evne dice much in battle. But also... no! I have 2 groups I GM since... oh forgot when. All they do is optimize and try to break it. I don't limit them...

Gnomes! (HUH) What are they good for? Absolutely nothing!

Pardon me, but gnomes are so cool and versatile that I have had to restrict my last PF table crew to 2 gnomes.

So You're Just Not "Feeling It" for 5e - What ARE you excited about?

I'm fine with 5e, but am more excited of finally getting a non-Middle Earth One Ring game together. Not a very big fan of Savage Worlds (exploding dice) but some of the settings are cool enough I import them to d20 lol

    D&D 5E Player's Handbook Races

You know, all the children I played FR with actually wanted to keep the drow evil. Simply so they could have something to rally against. Clear black and white thing and all. Young adults are no children. And I never had a teenager playing anything "angsty" either. Evil rebel was much more likely.

    D&D 5E Player's Handbook Races

Exactly. Seriously, they could put in 300 races I don't like, wouldn't change if I buy or not. I'm more sad when stuff is missing because it's more work to house rule them in than out because you will need to adapt stats.

    D&D 5E Player's Handbook Races

Yeah we disallow dragon-like races types with breasts. Whoever came up with that must be immensely dumb. The dragonborn get so much hate from most of my groups we just declare them nonexisting.

    D&D 5E Player's Handbook Races

It's what I play most and in some groups where the GM said only one per race and gender we had to fight over it. I love playing dwarfs in general because they are grumpy, and females are even more fun because I get to be grumpy in a female way hehe

    D&D 5E Player's Handbook Races

Female dwarfs have beards, by Moradin! And no aasimar is a no-no for me and my groups, too. Plus there is other stuff missing, of course - so I hope the other races will be included later.

No more references to real world politics, past or present, please.

D&D 5E Three cheers for Mearls and Co.!

Yes, please have that conversation elsewhere, thanks.

D&D 5E Lost Mine of Phandelver (pretty much the worst adventure title in the history of D&D)

Oh my... As long as there won't be something even more off like the Phorgotten Phault of the Throw.

D&D 5E Lost Mine of Phandelver (pretty much the worst adventure title in the history of D&D)

You are right, awful name. Makes me want to hand it to my comic central group to see how they can make fun out of it.

    Your first tabletop character.

The first I really played with some rules consistency was a DSA paladinish char named Ayla, and she still exists, albeit in a D&D/PF world as an NPC lol But the very first... no real memory. I remember it being a gnomish mix of wizard and fighter, and we, as kinds maybe 7 or 8 or so, largely...

D&D 5E Played tonight! Couple of questions.

Do you think it would be easy to de-Vancian it altogether? I'm not sure if to make up a new house rule system based on 5e or just update my 3.5/PF mix.

D&D 5E WotC will not allow translation of D&D NEXT.

I don't like DSA much, the setting is cool but the rules I dislike. There is a 5th edition coming and they have again chaged world info around so I heard. I could ask the publishers about it though, maybe if they see interest they might go for online products at least.

D&D 5E WotC will not allow translation of D&D NEXT.

Yeah, the best selling RPG in Germany unfortunately is still DSA. After that, it's Shadowrun, and then probably PF and the WoD stuff. Splittermond is coming up stong, too. PF is doing fine here with quality translations. But the German language based games will always do better I guess.

Be honest, how long would it really take you to notice all of this stuff...?

My husband is super good with numbers. If he says something is broken when played out to its fullest possibilities, then it likely is. Wish I could remember what made me start adapting rules first place, however most of our changes have less to do with numbers but other stuff like elves...

Laptops at the table..and recent research showing how bad it is in education..does it carry over to gaming?

Heheee... yeah for buying something new that's probably the better option :)

Be honest, how long would it really take you to notice all of this stuff...?

I super suck with numbers (discalculia) so no, I didn't notice at first. Husband told me a few things were broken, but those never came up in our games. But once, forgot what detail it was, but 8it had to do with combat, I had a big wait a minute moment. And that's when I started houseruling...
