D&D General How Was Your Last Session?

Ok, played the OSR with skycrawl again. Trying to get out of a huge building in a dead city to get out i said dead city before we dehydrate and die. then we'll have to fight pats bandits to get back to the top of the planet (we are inside). and we are injured and with dwindling water supplies (a...

OSR Old school wizards, how do you play level 1?

LotFP allows you to use whatever weapon you want, but a cleric needs one hand free for his holy symbol to cast spells, a MU can't cast spells while holding a weapon other than a staff or wand, and an elf (which we don't use) I believe just needs one hand free to cast spells. Also, MU can cast...

OSR Old school wizards, how do you play level 1?

Yeah, magic users are very restricted in the B/X we are playing but I've been making it work with my +2 INT modifier and +1 CON modifier, staying back of party. Clerics are actually beefed up a bit in this version though. We keep hiring mercs, but they keep rolling 1 on a d6 (level 0) for HP...

OSR Old school wizards, how do you play level 1?

Yeah, back then I wound up just using a short bow after I had cast my one spell (In the B/X we are playing, you cannot cast spells holding a weapon except a wand or staff), and if something rushed me, a staff. We are level 4 now, so I have magic missile and web now. As far as hirelings (the...

D&D General Do You D&D OSR?

No, the max is -3 and you have to roll a 3. Nobody rolled above 16 (I had the only one) or below 5 (he had two). Looks pretty normal until you realize he rolled stats 4 times below zero modifiers, and one at zero...so most of the negative rolls were one person of the 4.

D&D General Do You D&D OSR?

He rolled two 5s, an 8, and everything else was a zero mod, 9-12. He rolled several more times and still couldn't get to zero or above. I changed his dice, and finally, he hit zero but the rest of us were at +2, so the DM let him try again and he got +1, which is all zeros and a 1.

D&D General Do You D&D OSR?

Eh...I would have missed a couple of magic saves without my +2 bonus from INT and the INT bonus subtracts 2 days from researching and scribing scrolls. It makes a difference for my magic user. The rogue's bonus with a bow has also been a close call a few times. If the DM had said, no rerolling...

D&D General Do You D&D OSR?

One of the nice things about LotFP (B/X), which we run, is if your modifiers total under zero, you reroll, but I can see someone rolling a 16, for stats 9-12, and a 4, and that is 0. We had a guy who rolled under zero four times till he finally got +1 total.

Yes (that is how the group originally met) and I also posted on the DC Gaming discord. A lot of people are 5E focused.

Oh, it will be fine. We have 2 players that shows regularly and one that can't always show but let's us run his character. we can keep playing as is if we have to. There is a local D&D LFG happy hour coming up and we can talk to people there. Yeah, Skycrawl is fun.

D&D General Do You D&D OSR?

Yes, we are playing a B/X OSR as an engine for Aaron Reed's Skycrawl (sky ship addon). I will say it's difficult to find players for OSRs in person in Washington, DC. We had a player move and are looking to fill 1-2 spots. 5E is really big here.

OSR Anyone playing Aaron A. Reed's Skycrawl (or downcrawl) with an OSR?

Oh, yeah, our DM had us a find a notebook (with loot) with some already filled in to update ours. later on, we bought a couple of answers form an orcery shop, and later yet, traded some with an orcerer that approached our ship on a barge. Oh, and we randomly tried Lazul Lode on our own (because...

OSR Anyone playing Aaron A. Reed's Skycrawl (or downcrawl) with an OSR?

I've been having a lot of fun playing Skycrawl (as a player) as an add on to an OSR, and it has been a lot of fun. You explore different floating islands in your skyship and combine different "heavy elements" for magical effects. Right now our party is wizard, rogue, cleric, and fighter and the...
