I think he'll enjoy it honestly. The ECS has a lot of great seeds for campaign ideas and the first adventure path of modules really does a lot to bring out some of the great features that make Eberron what it is.

I was referring to the variant rules and exceptions such as clerics being able to cast spells of opposite alignment, orcs not being evil by default and actually being a playable race along with other monstrous humanoids and goblinoids, paladins being more tolerant of evil and not slaughtering...

Well, not to sound like I'm an Eberron fanboy, but my reason for choosing it was because of several key reasons. 1. I could be a part of it from the ground up. 2. It is analogous to modern society overlayed on top of medieval society, which makes it easy for DMs and players to perceive how life...

Dragon monks, ninjas, and pirates oh my!

Get your hands on a copy of Council of Wyrms. It was a 2e campaign option by TSR, and you can purchase the PDF for $4. There were actually two versions, the later version just updated the first. A friend of mine ran a homebrew campaign that was something similar to what you describe, but...

I'm just trying to understand your limits here. Why wouldn't it happen for his birthday, and why does he need something instantly playable? FYI, the Eberron Campaign Setting comes with a first-level adventure that kicks off a campaign continued in the Eberron modules Shadows of the Last War...

So a written adventure module that's more of a full campaign than a module? Hmm. That's tough, but in all honesty, if he's been gaming for 8 years, I think he'd be OK with a setting and some supplements. I would go with Eberron as it has dozens of wilderness areas to explore including Q'barra...

Are you looking for suggestions for campaign settings or adventure modules? Also, what type of campaigns does he typically enjoy? If he just wants a campaign setting, I recommend Eberron. It's a strong, consistent setting that has room for any type of campaign. It's also knew so he can enjoy it...

    How do you see Darkvision?

How do I see it? I don't, but it'd be cool if I did! Kidding aside, I envision it as how the aliens in Pitch Black saw things. ' Edit: To elaborate further, the creatures saw black and white up to a limited depth. Everything beyond that was just blurred beyond any visibility.

D&D 3E/3.5 Kulan: Psionics and Psionic Organizations

Is it really that good? I checked out a preview and it seemed overrated. Did I miss something? Also, how are the other supplements such as the Psionic Feats, Psionic Diseases and Mental Maladies, Races of the Mind: Elan, etc.?

D&D 3E/3.5 Kulan: Psionics and Psionic Organizations

I'll offer a second vote for Complete Psionic. Those who are so vocally opposed to it are ignoring the good bits in it by wasting time bashing the rest. The Hidden Houses are very cool, and I plan to incorporate them into my Eberron campaign as descendants of long forgotten Sarlonan nobility...

Hardest things to balance in game

For me it's general practices that seem to be more art rather than science. Magic Items: This includes wondrous items, rings, item abilities, etc. I've often tried to create legacy abilities a la Weapons of Legacy, but I gave up on that. I instead use the enhancement bonus ability options and...

Paladin of Wee Jas...how to play it?

The biggest misconception about Wee Jas' true nature is that she favors undead. In actuality, she doesn't. Wee Jas protects the dead in her original concept. However, in 3e they simply slapped on the death domain. Instead, to reflect her original concept, I gave her the repose domain. With the...

    A question for Scott Rouse

I think everyone took my comment out of context. It wasn't to say that there might be more products coming, but that typically WotC employees and freelancers don't discuss them until they are on that page. As such, they might not be able to come to this thread and discuss the product list or...

    Quori in Dragon?

Thanks for the catch on the error, Glyfair. I knew they weren't quite quori in the traditional sense, but I didn't have the magazine on hand to recall that they weren't quori at all.

    Quori in Dragon?

There were in fact some others not present in Secrets of Sarlona, but they were non-traditional quori IIRC. It was Dragon Issue #324. PS - Eberron in Dragon Magazine
