D&D 4E Running player commentary on PCat's 4E Campaign - Heroic tier (finished)

Dr? Elijah? Caldwell? Logan? Cobalt? Cartwright? Strontium? I've read Piratecat's story hours before and he puts a hell of a lot of effort into his games... so why did the players choose what appear to be real world/non-fantasy names? For me at least they break the verisimilitude unless, of...

    Clark Peterson on 4E

This is strange. I can remember at least really one positive post about 4E prior to its release... and now this. Oh well, everyone is entitled to change their mind.

    Ampersand: Graz'zt from MoP

Great article... but the art really sucks. Sorry, that's not a very elegant way to put it... but it is really bad.

Does a definitive Map/tiles program exist?

Despite the recommendations for Dundjinni I would warn you against it unless you have a VERY powerful PC. Two of my PCs were significantly above the required specs but both basically stopped working as soon as I opened Dundjinni.

Name one thing you love and one thing you hate about 4e D&D

Love The ease with which NPCs and monsters are created. Hate The new FR.

    Tell me about Savage Worlds

Clearly my answers are opinions only: It holds up very well for a variety of play styles. Yep... fast, fun and furious. Generally speaking, no. I would argue that 4E drew a LOT of inspiration from Savage Worlds, particularly when it comes to minions and the design of NPCs. I've been...

    Cadfan's Comments on Everything 4e

Thanks for your post, Cadfan. It has been really helpful as I prepare to run my first 4E game.

    FR Paragon Path: Chauntea

My 4E rules-fu is very weak at this point so I can only say: 1. I really like the flavour of this! Thanks for posting. 2. I hope you post more... because one of the things I want to see for 4E, particularly FR, is more paragon paths for clerics of specific faiths. I hated generic clerics in 1E...

    4th Edition Noble Multiclass

This is a great idea. I'll definitely be picking this up. The idea of "bloodlines" as power source, particularly for a multiclass, seems to have a lot of potential. Hmmm... perhaps this plus FR's spellscarred is the way to duplicate Birthright?

Dragon 367 - Realmslore: Hall of the Frostmaiden

I was hoping that these articles might also introduce customised powers for specific clerics (not just Channel Divinity).

    All Elves

My first 3E campaign was all elves. I wanted to run 2E's Night Below and decided to set it in the south of Faerun near the nation of Dambrath. The wild elves of the Forest of Amtar seemed to be a good source of PCs so the players duly decided to make an all wild elf party. I included some...

Topic Of The Week 39, September, 2008

Lots of statistics from the Monster Manual I found this thread, "Lots of statistics from the Monster Manual", interesting and have nominated it accordingly for Topic Of The Week 38, September, 2008.

D&D 4E Bloodstone, an epic 4e campaign (rules and story)

Thanks for posting your campaign notes. They made interesting and inspiring reading. I hope you will post more.

    A shrieker sounds like...

I live in Singapore and frequent the odd karaoke bar or two... so my vote is for young, drunk Malay guys "shrieking" to hard rock songs. Oh, what a noise....

    FRPG - In hand.

Do you think the book is worth having if you running 4E but setting the game in the pre-Spellplague Realms?

    Creatures native to Acheron

Acheron is, IMO, a badly designed plane at least as far as inhabitants go. It's for Lawful Evil Neutral where the commitment to Lawful is stronger than the commitment to Evil. As such, it is the --wrong-- plane for, inter alia, rakshasa and goblins. I think the "vast war machine" is the right...

    Slucher's Art

Mate, your stuff is simply stunning. Brilliant. Thanks for posting.

D&D 4E Handling things like Riding and Craft with 4E Skills.

You could always do what Savage Worlds does. SW has a "catch-all" skill called Common Knowledge. You can use this for anything related to your character's background. This would be easy to implement in 4E because there are no skill points. Just give everyone a Common Knowledge skill with the +5...

    Flails as Shield By-pass weapons...

I would argue that the ability to bypass a shield basically brings the flail into the exotic weapon category. As such, a couple of feats might be the way to go in a chain like this: 1. Martial Weapon Proficiency: flail 2. Weapon Focus: flail 3. Bypass Shield: +1 to hit with flail against...

A question for those of you who have used Mongoose Publishing's Book of Immortals...

The rules in that book are basically wonky. Ignore the rules and just use the flavour (as you have to do with a lot of Mongoose publications).
