Official D&D Errata Updated (Nov 2018)

I've seen some people willfully misinterpret the way multiclassing works in order to prepare spells they shouldn't (usually via ignoring the big rule where you treat spells known and preparation as if you were only a single member of that class). This is just to help shut those people up.

Official D&D Errata Updated (Nov 2018)

One thing I noticed is a weird discrepency in the Demilich errata. It was changed from 80 (20d4) to 80 (32d4), which would make sense for the 2.5 average of a d4. The problem, however, is that the Demilich has this annoying sentence, that it seems they didn't axe: "Undead Nature. A demilich...

First Impressions – Guildmasters Guide to Ravnica

And I appreciate it. A third one that's been on my mind, though I wouldn't know how correct it is, is the feeling of there not being a thematic thread to hang story ideas off of, or at least one that is worn on its sleeves. Planescape and Eberron, the settings I have most fondness for, are...

First Impressions – Guildmasters Guide to Ravnica

Yeah, the expanded spell lists aren't all that powerful, as the wording implies they aren't auto-known or auto prepared. It's mostly a flavour element, and to be honest, one that I wish I had thought of myself. The actual renown benefits are mostly in line with what AL has done with the feature...

First Impressions – Guildmasters Guide to Ravnica

That is possible, perhaps. Previous experience with it might play into it, via getting part way through Torment (Actually, I really need to finish that; I never got past the pregnant street). That said, I also had investment into Ravnica via Magic, and I've read up on the Magic side of things to...

First Impressions – Guildmasters Guide to Ravnica

It's an odd duck. Like, I see parallels to Sigil in how the city iterates upon the Thing of the setting, and I agree the renown stuff here would be useful to the Planescape factions (even though I don't particularly care for them); I dunno if I'd want a Sigil book in the vein of Guildmaster's...

First Impressions – Guildmasters Guide to Ravnica

I'm not talking in terms of Guilds as player options; I'm talking in terms of guilds as setting element. As a player option, sure, they expand the spellcasters a bit (to my reading, it doesn't help Sorcs and Rangers much. It adds to their class spells list, not their spells known. It's worded...

First Impressions – Guildmasters Guide to Ravnica

I have a PDF of the initial Planescape boxed set (from DM's Guild) on me to compare the old boxed sets to the new hardcover. In total, it seems to have roughly the same page count as Ravnica; perhaps even slightly smaller because the boxed set format adds redundant pages like multiple tables of...

First Impressions – Guildmasters Guide to Ravnica

That's basically how I feel. The guilds don't draw me in, because "Strong factions with tons of interplay your characters can rise in the ranks of," feels like it should be standard in an rpg setting, not the unique defining thing of one. Crunch doesn't draw me in, as I can get that from more...

First Impressions – Guildmasters Guide to Ravnica

What they've done is go, "Well known locations outside the City include XYZ," and those are the only time they come up. You don't even really get a hint of what they are, just names that sound like they might be interesting. Mahovna, the Haven of Moss sounds really cool, but all there is to go...

RPGSports Round 1 Marred by Technical Problems and Bad DM Calls

It gets so much better. Hide, ready, and cover rules aren't tracked, dramatically changing the balance of combat. looking at the rogue pregen, which is an assassin rogue. Like, ok, even beyond the assassin being a terrible choice in pvp (due to the fact that it relies on surprise, which likely...

First Impressions – Guildmasters Guide to Ravnica

Basically, the entire world is a city called Ravnica, but there's a location called the City Proper, or Ravnica City. Ravnica City is split into Ten Districts, and Guildmaster's Guide focuses on only one of those districts, the 10th District. Allusions are made to outside locations, but no time...

I just use the DMG table, myself. Page 249, if I'm recalling correctly.

First Impressions – Guildmasters Guide to Ravnica

Part of it is that it's straight lacking in chunks, like how the history section glosses over 10,000 years of history like nothing happened, to cases of just not telling us anything about important NPCs (Like, there is nothing about Isperia besides that she's a sphinx and that she's apparently...

First Impressions – Guildmasters Guide to Ravnica

Barely familiar with it. I know of Vraska (who as far as I can tell goes completely unmentioned) and Jace, and I've played a few drafts in the current set. Otherwise, I'm going into this from the perspective of a D&D player wondering why I'd play D&D games in the setting.

First Impressions – Guildmasters Guide to Ravnica

I've had the opposite impression from probably most people here. It feels like there's something lacking. It's an interesting read at times, but the world feels hollow.

Aging and Immortality and does it Matter?

It doesn't have many mechanical uses; most of its ramifications are thematic. The big thing is that it reinforces the idea that mortality is an absolute, inescapable truth of the world. We all die at some point, no matter what we do to prolong our lives. This is also why undeath and necromancy...

    D&D 5E Dragon+: Q&A with Jeremy Crawford, 10/30/18

The way he words it, those sound like they're not the only changes. Just two he felt he could publicly announce before the rest of the errata. It might be that these are the only changes, or it might be that there's going to be more substantial updates to go with it.

Mike Mearls: so here’s the first part of my two-weapon fighting house rule

Without feats, it's slightly in favour of GWF still, though it's not as wide a gap. With some off the cuff math (i.e. not accounting for crits or whiffs, just multiplying the average of all dice by a 65% chance of hitting) it's about 25.9935 versus a 22.1 average at level 11. That said, TWF gets...

Ravnica Table of Contents & More

That's basically my problem with the book. It doesn't really feel like a full setting that takes advantage of its ecumopolis premise, in favour of focusing solely on how the guilds interact. Now, I get why the guilds are a big deal to people. In the card game, the guilds are the main way of...
