WotC Layoffs - Rob Heinsoo, Logan Bonner, and Chris Sims

A company that fires their best employees doesn't last as long as WotC has. It just doesn't happen like that unless politics (and thus emotions) are involved, and too much of that kills a business relatively quickly (depending on size). Any stories to the contrary are almost certainly urban...

WotC Layoffs - Rob Heinsoo, Logan Bonner, and Chris Sims

Huh? That would probably be short-sighted. I'm sure they don't enjoy laying off employees. When they (or almost anyone) do, it's usually out of necessity because they aren't getting enough "support" from their fan base for a wide variety of reasons. Using that as the *motivation* to pull...

WotC Layoffs - Rob Heinsoo, Logan Bonner, and Chris Sims

I constantly hear people complaing that the industry won't let them in, but this shows that it's not a very big industry. Why they do this during the holidays is the bigger question. It might have to do with the timing of Hasbro's fiscal year. Either way, it sucks to hear that people are out...

synDCon, Feb 12-15 2010, Wash. DC metro area (Rockville MD)

synDCon 2010 Information This is Rob Bodine, one of the organizers for synDCon. I wanted to answer your questions raised in this thread. @madwabbit: We can actually handle over twice that number. Our capacity far exceeds our expected number of participants in our first year, but I'm guessing...

    Northern VA - 4e D&D Worldwide Gameday - UPDATE 10 June

Miserable I, for one, had a miserable time. In the morning session, I killed only one of the two children. What's up with that? In the evening session, I killed both children, but no PCs (until the solo encounter). I have to seriously reconsider ever judging a gameday again, and even...

    Northern VA - 4e D&D Worldwide Gameday - UPDATE 10 June

Oh, for the love of Pelor, don't swell his head any larger! :) D'karr, this is "rbodine." On these boards, I'm known as Frylock, so update my handle accordingly. (Of course, Frolock is also acceptable.)

Announcement: E-Initiative(tm) Initiative Tracking Tool Website

Thanks, but I can live with my decision, even if it prevents this shareware from making me rich. :) For the reasons I expressed, I'm not concerned about insulting Hackmaster or Andargor. I'm guessing they wouldn't buy the s/w unless they could pirate it. Also, their logic is so flawed that...

Announcement: E-Initiative(tm) Initiative Tracking Tool Website

Well, I'm not really worried about them, nor am I worried about you, although not because I think you're being unfair. First, the app has a great deal of functionality even when unregistered. If you choose not to register it, it still might be worth your while, especially if you use E-Tools...

Requiring registration of software is Big Brother-esque? That's just as funny. One of these days, you're going to get a job, try to sell a product, and have people try to steal it from you. Then, you're going to, let's say, install video cameras to protect your store front. Then someone's...

Announcement: E-Initiative(tm) Initiative Tracking Tool Website

RPGXplorer RPGXplorer appears to have XML output. Could you email me a comprehensive sample of your XML output so I could support it? By "comprehensive" I mean a high level character that uses the most complicated calculations for AC, saves, etc. if that's appropriate. EDIT: I downloaded...

Xml I figured it out for myself. I just opened up the XML file and saw how the tags were organized. Because most of the parsing was extremely simple, there's a low chance of errors, but for some of the calculations (e.g., Flat-footed AC), there's certainly a possibility.

Import -- Output E-Tools character from E-Tools in XML format. -- Built in procedures parse the XML file and read it into the EIA. So your answer is that the EIA is itself a custom reader. It may be a pain in the neck to code, but it's probably much faster than it otherwise would be.

I'll add them to the download page sometime today or tonight. BTW, someone suggested that I allow the EIA to read in files from PCGen. I don't know if PCGen allows you to export to a text, XML, HTML, etc. format, but if it (or any other character generator) does, this will eventually be added...
