    D&D (2024) Playtest 6: Paladin ... Divine Smite is a Spell now

If you want to play with magic, you have to pay the price. There is no such thing as a free lunch. A class should not get all of the benefits of casting spells with none of the downside. Smite spells are already automatically cast and can never fail, they don't need to to be immune to...

    D&D (2024) UA Ranger (Playtest 6)

I agree. Personally I prefer listing the bonus spells at the level you receive them, but I think giving all of them at once in chart would just go over better if people don't think of them as a full class feature. I also think that both spells could use a bit of a damage boost. Personally I...

    D&D (2024) UA Ranger (Playtest 6)

When I first read the new conjure barrage/volley spells, and noticed that they don't target allies, I though of them as similar to an evoker casting AOE spells or a Sorcerer using careful spell, and in most cases they are. However I just realized that in certain situations they are so much...

    D&D (2024) 1st level monk. Why?

Your right, I was conflating unarmed strikes with natural attacks. Wild shape beasts could still make unarmed strikes to get the bonus action attack though. Not great but there could be usable in the right situation.

    D&D (2024) 1st level monk. Why?

I didn't think of that. Unarmed Strikes using strength also stack with the barbarians bonus rage damage. Come to think of it, a monk dip would also work really well on a wild shaped Druid. Kung Fu Grizzlies for the win!

D&D (2024) Playtest Packet 6: They knocked Druid out of the Park

Moon Druids can turn into CR 1 beast at level 3. It is under Circle Forms in the playtest packet.

    D&D (2024) 1st level monk. Why?

I would say a free bonus action attack for 1d6 +3 (that stacks with dual wielding) is a pretty good benefit for a 1 lvl dip. It's situational, and requires a good dex and wisdom (because you need to use unarmored defense to use your bonus action attack), but what ranger wouldn't want a free...

D&D (2024) Playtest Packet 6: They knocked Druid out of the Park

They don't care about the THP of a cat. It's the bears THP that is the problem. When a 3rd level moon druid turns into a brown bear they should not get more THP than a 3rd level fighter total pool of hit points. A third level fighter with a 16 constitution can have a max of 31 hit points (if...

    D&D (2024) 1st level monk. Why?

I like the new monk. It is a lot better than the old version, but it is not quite there yet. I agree that 1st level monks could use something more. Personally I think all monks should be able to apply the 3rd lvl open hand monks abilities to all unarmed strikes. Having said that, a 1st level...

D&D (2024) Playtest Packet 6: They knocked Druid out of the Park

A template where a wolf is different from a spider and a bear. Most of the complaints I have seen is about the templates was about lack of customizability and every animal being the same.

D&D (2024) Playtest Packet 6: They knocked Druid out of the Park

I just had a related idea reading your post. How about having saleable stat blocks for beasts. You could have a single stat block for cats, and its HP attack bonus and damage can scale with its CR.

D&D (2024) Unearthed Arcana Playtest Packet 6 Video

I liked unifying subclass progression, but I understand they are trying to maintain backwards compatibility. However, at minimum the rouge needs to get a second subclass feature before 9th level. That is just to late for their second subclass feature, most rogue players never actually get to...

D&D 5E Worldbuilding: destruction and siege via Mold Earth?

You are being to pedantic about "loose earth". If if worked like you are saying, the spell would literally do nothing. Any soil underground and not sitting on the surface is "compacted". Using your definition would make the spell nothing more then a broom, sweeping the surface dirt five feet...

D&D (2024) Unloading some DM duties to the players.

A few years ago I was DMing a big fight and ending up getting confused and was applying damage to the wrong monsters. One of my players noticed and offered to help and track initiative. It is amazing, and I will never go back to tracking it myself again. It actually really improved my dming...

    D&D (2024) D&D 5.11 - the time of big change is over

I am just repeating what the designers said. I don't have any more info than you do, but what would be the benefit for them to lie, or try to obfuscate it? What possible reason would they have to deceive players about the length of time it takes to print the books?

    D&D (2024) D&D 5.11 - the time of big change is over

They have a lot more time than you think. I don't know when you expect them to release the books, but I don't expect to see them earlier than late summer/fall. If I recall correctly they have stated it is only about a three month process from finalizing a book to printing it. That is one of...

D&D (2024) Jeremy Crawford discusses what are the 2024 Fitfh Edition Core Rulebooks.

When you start on the 95th meter in a hundred meter dash, and everyone else starts at the beginning, then yes, slow and steady will win the race. It's not like D&D is behind and needs to catch up. They are already miles ahead of the competition. They have already had explosive, exponential...

    D&D (2024) WotC D&D Comunity Update for June 8th.

Calling the playtest 1D&D also helps prevent future confusion when googling. If they just called the playtest revised 5e or something similar, in the future people googling for 5e would get playtest information in their search results. A codename just helps keep your goggle searches clean.

D&D (2024) Jeremy Crawford discusses what are the 2024 Fitfh Edition Core Rulebooks.

Chaosium and Call of Cthulhu actually use "edition" in the traditional and normal way. Their editions are just small incremental changes, that are fully compatible with older editions. It maybe coincidental, but Chaosium is the only one of the original RPG publishers, that started in the 70's...

D&D (2024) Jeremy Crawford discusses what are the 2024 Fitfh Edition Core Rulebooks.

The designers keep explicitly stating their goals over and over and over again, but there are still people who refuse to believe them. At this point I just don't know there is a way for them to make people understand. If some someone is convinced that they are dishonest liars, I don't think...
