    D&D Must Buys

Like others have said, it all depends on what you want to do with the campaign. Personally, I say avoid any of the splatbooks (Complete this, Quintessential that). IMO, they add little except for confusion and DM headaches. For me, I put my money into monster books (Tome of Horrors 1 and 2...

    Best NonWOTC Campaign setting?

I recently finished a Scarred Lands campaign and had a lot of fun DMing that. Although I'm running a homebrew world now, if I was to pick up a new setting, it would buy The Wilderlands by Necromancer Games...

Respect to Mr. Gygax and Mr. Arneson

My thoughts exactly. Has the original poster even posted here again? Probably not, and who could blame him. Not only did people jump all over his simple comment, one guy corrected his grammar. What a great way to welcome him to the boards. And people wonder why the messageboards here get a...

    Dungeon #112 has arrived

This goes for me as well. I used to have a subscription to Dungeon back in the day. I cancelled for the simple reason that there was no way I could run all the adventures I was getting, so I couldn't justify buying it anymore. However, I have to say, I couldn't resist this "revisit" and will...

Need a d20 system that does NOT require core rules

Yep, if I wanted a non-D&D d20 system, I would go with Grim Tales.... which came be used for past, present, or future settings.

What is your favorite Necromancer Games module

Yep, same here. You know a module has affected players whenever the dungeon's name, Rappan Athuk, is mentioned and they shudder.

    Body Counts?

When I DMed back in high school, I admit I fudged die rolls a decent bit. There were very few PC deaths. However, I no longer do that. Although we had great times back then, I think it would have been even better if the threat of PC death was more apparent. I am now older and wiser. :cool...

What did you do during TSR's dark days of '97

While I was aware when WotC bought TSR, I really hadn't noticed the lack of product. My college gaming group was quite happy with what we had (basically, we used 2nd edition rules with 1st edition adventures). I do remember thinking that WotC buying TSR was a good thing, but I too didn't know...

    WotC and D&D

Me too, I should say. I don't think that WotC is the anti-christ. I think their web site is pretty cool and full of goodies. I like the OGL/d20 stuff. (Although you can put me in the "3.5 was unnecessary and a disappointment" camp.) The problem is that WotC themselves has not produced much...

    Player's Journal 4 Notes

Not to hurt anyone's feelings here, but I vote NO on any kind of story hour in EN World Journal. I think the mag's strength is that it is pure, meaty, gaming material. Please don't change the format!

How to motivate players to play?

I currently DM a fairly large group. One thing that seems to help (for me at least) is to have a set, regular game date. For example, we play the first Saturday of every month. That allievates a lot of "I didn't know we were playing" stuff. Plus, we have a fairly strict policy... we are going...

Conan vs Lord of the Rings

I think it's kind of odd to debate which author is "better." Really, it's all a matter of taste. Personally, I enjoyed both. The ironic thing is, though, when I started reading JRRT, I thought, "Wow, he could do without some of these details" and when I started reading REH, I thought "Wow, he...

    Basic D&D rides again!

Well, I bought the Starter set for my nephew for this past Christmas and he loved it. He actually put down his Gameboy to play,a rare event. He's about 10 years old and I'd say it was a good fit for him since he has never played anything like that (well, he has played the Baldur's Gate computer...

    Need a Monster Book Suggestion

I'll jump in say that CC1 and CC2 are quite good and could be used for any setting, not just Scarred Lands. The Tome of Horrors is also quite good and have plenty devils and demons.
