SciFi Channel Movie: The Legend of Earthsea

I'm not a huge fan of the novels (I quite enjoyed the first two, thought the third was OK but slow going, and loathed Tehanu with a fiery passion). So, I'm not coming from a Le Guin fanboy perspective when I say: the miniseries was horrible. Horrible, horrible, horrible. "Invisibility? Do...

    Serenity Sequel possibility

Yeah, because the 95% of your potential audience who never saw the series don't count. You wouldn't want them to actually like your movie, anyway. Personally, I saw and liked the series before I saw the film, so I knew who all the characters were. But let's not forget that the show's actual...

    Adventure Recommendation Request

Wizard's Amulet is easily able to be finished in one 4-hour session. It's a very short and straightforward adventure (a bit too linear for experienced players, but probably not a problem for novices). The end battle is pretty darn tough.

Dr Who -- kinda lame this season

Because if he didn't get zapped into the past by the angels those events wouldn't happen and Sally wouldn't write the notes to give him so the Doctor wouldn't be warned and he'd be zapped into the past by the angels ...

    Lord Voldemort

It is a problem if you make him so inept that you destroy his credibility as a legitimate threat by the end of the 4th book of your 7-book series.

    Lord Voldemort

When a writer includes a line that amounts to "my bad guy needs to be inept because otherwise my plot won't hold together", that's not a solution to the problem, it's a sign of it.

Pathfinder 1E Have you played or run Paizo's Adventure Paths?

I played through the first two adventures of AoW and loathed, loathed, loathed them (I know I am in the minority here). Whispering Cairn was like playing a CRPG: find a door there is no way to open except by completing an arbitrary miniquest; complete the miniquest; find another door there is...

The Day the Earth Stood Still remake

That was in fact the only time I laughed in Army of Darkness. I don't have an issue with re-making the film (though I dread to think what the updated 'message of peace' will be) ... but casting Keanu Reeves? The studio just lost my eight bucks.

    Lord Voldemort

    Incompetent. :)

    Dresden Files done?

These 'clip' shows are generally planned ahead to give the cast and crew a break, not because the show has unexpectedly run out of cash. Many long season (22+ episode) shows have one every year.

Doctor Who - no season 5 for 2009... but 2010

I can stomach 'End' only because it leads to 'New Earth'. Tastes vary. There are even people who liked 'Evolution of the Daleks'. :) I should also mention that I think RTD has done a good job as script co-ordinator, and that has really helped the show. I just don't think much of his personal...

Doctor Who - no season 5 for 2009... but 2010

I'd rate RTD's season one episodes as ranging from poor (End of the World, Boom Town) to fair (most of the rest) with occasional good moments. I'd put his first two episodes in season two (New Earth, Tooth & Claw) as his most effective Who scripts. Again, the rest of his work in that season...

    Iron Heroes Players Companion

In my utterly unbiased opinion, it's awesome! :D More seriously, there are a couple of threads on rpg.net about it, and also at the old Malhavoc boards. I've been very pleased with the feedback we're getting. There are no plans for a book like that.

Dr Who -- kinda lame this season

With the exception of three episodes (Blink, Human Nature, Family of Blood), season 3 is a dog. And yes, I include the execrable season finale in that.

The Last Legion. Why am I just now hearing about this?

It was modestly entertaining, and about as historically accurate as <i>Gladiator</i> (i.e. not at all). Good for a harmless two hours.

    Beyond Saturn's Rings - True20 - Thursday, 9am - 1pm (Full)

S'ok. I used the time to browse the convention hall and determine that I was actually going to get away from Gencon relatively swag-free this year :) Hope the game went well.

D&D 4E Has the 4E Announcement Changed Your Buying Plans?

I was going to buy MM5 and the Rules Compendium. Now, I'm not.

    Beyond Saturn's Rings - True20 - Thursday, 9am - 1pm (Full)

So am I the only one who doesn't know where we are supposed to meet up, or was there a fundamental flaw in all our planning?
