D&D 4E 4e Special Ability PER Encounter stinks...

Actually, the Jedi in my game hasn't taken it yet. He took Force Training at 1st level, and Melee Defense at 2nd. The only character taking Skill Focus has been the noble. I'd be willing to bet that most Jedi will take SF:UtF at some point in their career, but for all that I've seen folks...

    D&D 4E 1st level 4E characters are already Heroes

I remember the first time I played 2e. We started at 1st level. On the way to the dungeon, the cleric fell down a hill, almost died, and we had to go back to town to wait for him to heal up. When we got into the dungeon, we ran into three skeletons, and were slaughtered. It was not fun. The...

Well, he did have four limbs chopped off, so I believe he's got a -4 figured into his stats. :)

Out of curiosity, what problems did you have with Skill Focus?

New tidbit about spells and hit points.

Off the top of my head: Mechanically, the fact that they're touch attacks means the wizard is at least somewhat more likely to succeed at them (assuming ranged touch attacks are how the hypothetical magical blasts will be adjudicated; it may be something completely different)...

No special slots, but in addition to gaining general feats like standard d20 characters (at 1st, 3rd, 6th, etc.), the base classes all get bonus feats every even-numbered level, and have Skill Training and Skill Focus on their list of available bonus feats. As for D&D, I could see having...

Everyone understands Basic. Alien species with a native tongue also gain that for free. Characters also know how to speak a number of extra languages equal to their Intelligence bonus. The Linguist feat allows you take even more bonus languages, equal to your Int bonus + 1. There's also a droid...

Well, he was made with, what, 1e? 2e? He probably ran out of spells for the day, and then Tasslehoff threw the Staff of Magius up there. ;)

    D&D 4E Will 4E be the PS3 of D&D?

This thread gave me visions of commercials in which a baby doll looks at a 4e PHB, and bursts into flames. *shudder* On the other hand, Wii-style commercials in which Mike Mearls and James Wyatt go to people's houses and get them to roll up characters and fight a dragon would totally rock. :D

My apologies. You're 100% correct: that comment was uncalled-for, and I'll try not to let my future posts sink to that level. To the subject at hand: one of the neater things that SWSE introduced was the Trained-only uses of skills. For example: there's no Track feat in SWSE; if you're Trained...

I said "pretty much as-is" in post #10, because -- as is clear from everything else I've said -- 4e =! SWSE, and naturally some adjustments would need to be made. The concepts behind SWSE are sound, and could (and should, in my opinion) be applied in 4e. This is not the same as the mythical...

In SWSE, everyone gets a lot more feats, so each individual feat "costs" less; the base classes each get one every even-numbered level, plus the standard feats at 1st, 3rd, 6th, etc. So, at 7th level, a non-human has 4-6 feats (plus bonus feats from their class). SWSE != D&D 3.5, and applying...

The leap from this: to this: is pretty staggering, especially since what he said was: Which doesn't mention skill ranks vs. Trained/Untrained, or really anything that was being discussed. Just because it won't be identical to SWSE doesn't mean some of the core concepts won't make the jump.

In SWSE, if you multiclass, your class skill list expands to include all the new class's skills, as well. You can then snag the Skill Training feat for the new skill you want, and you get all the benefits you get from the Trained skills you select at character creation. So, your bard/ranger PI...
