Rules for making minions (a.k.a. turn any monster into a minion on the fly!)

Which minion is the one that's one point off? Personally, I've never seen a good reason for using an Orc Drudge (pg 203) where I can get away with a Hobgoblin Grunt (pg 138). The grunt costs me less encounter XP, and has higher initiative, defenses, and a great racial power. All this is at the...

4E Dark Sun adventure: Legacies of War

They're only doing one setting per year. Eberron is next, but Dark Sun has been discussed as one of the possible settings after Eberron.

    Blue Fire of Athas

I'm going to throw that down in the center of the table when we get to Dark Sun. Visual reminders of the world they live in help breathe life into it, and I can see this will have some IMPACT! What is the book or PDF that this will be the cover of?

[High level monsters and powers] What can Graz'zt actually do?

The trouble in 3.5 was that 5 players, most of whom were trying to build decently optimized characters, could become increasingly deadly, skilled, and/or optimized with their PCs. As a 3.5 DM, sometimes I didn't entirely understand what I was supposed to do with certain monsters, or I thought I...

Simplified Daily Item Usage and Action Point Tracking

It seems that with your system, people would have to hoard their action points just to take extra actions as often as is normal. Using item powers will make it increasingly difficult just to use APs for their original purpose.

    Sustained powers that "Save Ends"?

Sustaining the zone power makes the zone persist, and the zone inflicts ongoing damage. That's why their saving throw doesn't end the entire effect. "I made a saving throw - so much for your spell!" is supposed to be about as dead as "you failed your saving throw - you're dead!"

[High level monsters and powers] What can Graz'zt actually do?

I, for one, welcome our new concise-stat-block overlords. I really, really, really can't be arsed to care how many 3.5 fey can use ghost sound and dancing lights. It's safe to assume that they all can do so, but that never stopped the blasted spells from showing up in every monster entry...

    Half-Elves, yes? Why not Half-Dwarves?

Minotaur and warforged are already str/con. All-mental or all-physical races kinda pigeonhole a race, too, to where players will have a smaller selection of classes to play.

    D&D 4E Spheres & domains in 4e

They were too... 3.5, for lack of better verbiage. A few domains (especially PHB ones) were in nearly every portfolio, and some domains were only for one god, despite having a severe case of Domain Awesome. 1 - What if you made it more general? It could be as simple as power-source-based...

    D&D 3E/3.5 blending 4.0 & 3.5e - big mistake

Why is everyone always left out in the cold? I like to think of it as a whole exciting new ecosystem to explore. Some of them might be warm and muggy! Does unfamiliar territory always have to be cold?

    Proud Nails?

Leather armor proficiency has no prerequisites?

    Proud Nails?

Teensy question that I implied, but should have more straightforwardly asked: Is the irrelevance of cloth armor a 'proud nail' or just a pet peeve?
  13. dammitbiscuit

    Proud Nails?

I was amazed, when I rolled up my first wizard, at how high his AC was. Wizards will generally have better AC than clerics and warlocks, and comparable AC to rangers and rogues (when wearing leather). They have pretty good defensive utility powers, too. I don't think wizards need the HP...

    -1 defenses vs +1 attacks

Instead of something that just happens, every combat, every time, consider a reactive ability that either side is capable of using. Flipping the :):):):) Out: once per combat, any group of allies in that combat may choose, as a group, to Flip the :):):):) Out. To do so, half or more of their...

Stalker0's Obsidian Skill Challenge System (NEW VERSION: 1.2!!!)

Man, I wish I was DMing right now. I check this topic periodically in the hopes that people post and describe skill challenges they've been running, but it's just dead. I liked the question about "removing" the primary skill; it gave me several ideas. Sure, you could just reduce DCs by one to...

Brilliant idea. Good to hear that freaking Cafe Press has some competition. Evil gits.

How did I not see a beholder?

    Aye, 14!

How did I not see a beholder?

I was under the suspicion that he had surreptitiously made or intercepted a pass to throw me off at some point. That may have been what helped me; I was debating that possibility while I watched, though still focused on the whites.
