    Pathfinder 2E Pathfinder 2E or Pathfinder 1E?

IMO, epic/high fantasy is more setting/world and plot than "character build". Any edition is capable of taking unwitting teenager PCs into adulthood through a mysterious plot. Or being set in flying cloud giant fortresses where they ascend to such aboard dragons to rescue the princess before...

    Pathfinder 2E Pathfinder 2E or Pathfinder 1E?

I was Pathfinder's biggest proponent and defender in my local circles for years, but have certainly grown empathetic to various players moreso than I was in the 2015-2016 era. I certainly had to be as most fled to 5e from Pathfinder and finally even my home campaigns have flipped to 5e. Paizo...

Let's Look At Pathfinder 2's Weapons!

I don't know if these little weapon riders were what various weapon-wieldling characters were missing in play. I don't think I've had that many barbarians pine over using a glaive vs a greatsword but find their solution is met by adding in an increasing damage bonus per hit. Or a fighter who...

Let's Look At Pathfinder 2's Weapons!

A moment to weep for the thousands of hours that will be lost as players suddenly remember then discuss with their GMs that extra +1 damage or +1 to hit last round from a forceful or agile weapon... in some cases that extra +1 being the difference between a critical fumble, fumble, hit or...

[PF2] Cleric class preview + spells per level

Ha! That's just from the gamers I'm gaming the most with in 2018, who so far their only purchases in the current year include a copy of Xanathar's and some missing packs of Paizo's Adventure Card game. So at least among my closest circle, that'd be a 24X increase in spending. :)

[PF2] Cleric class preview + spells per level

I'm OK with this on the player and GM side. I know some folks who really enjoy the point-buy or rolling though. All the small races they've previewed I believe have a bonus to Charisma, which is a bit wonky.

[PF2] Cleric class preview + spells per level

The designers have basically suggested that they took the most radical/controversial option for any particular decision and went with that in the Playtest, believing they can always inch backwards from that if its not well received. I could probably find those citations. Presumably things inch...

[PF2] Cleric class preview + spells per level

So I've played plenty of 3e and Pathfinder. Thousands of hours, at least half the APs and probably 75% of the organized play scenarios. Right now PF2e is running so close to 5e, most of the core gamers I socialize with would rather just switch from PF1e over to 5e than PF2e. Each person has...

Pathfinder 1E Wondering which are the best Paizo APs?

Paizo APs come down to the actual adventures that compromise the six, and then who wrote them. If they tapped Richard Pett, Nick Logue or Greg Vaughan .. or James Jacobs himself penned it, odds are it'll be great, especially if it was a work they were passionate about.

The Goblin - Pathfinder 2's Newest Ancestry!

That's kinda the point I was trying to make. Imagine instead of the tiny bonus raiders got from race selection that it actually was a 10-25% contributor to their character's damage output. A small race with a 16 Str (after buying it up from a -2 racial adjust) using a small greatsword vs A...

The Goblin - Pathfinder 2's Newest Ancestry!

PF2e is definitely going more the "game" route than prior editions, discarding verisimilitude along the way. Imagine in a game like Warcraft if taller races had higher Strength, which translated to 20% increased damage output. Folks would never roll a goblin or gnome! Or if there was a...

    Pathfinder 2's Proficiency System Explored

I don't think it's the concept of skill bonuses which are: * your HD * your ability modifier (+1 to +5) * your proficiency (-1 to +5) But rather the understanding that doing certain things is gated by your proficiency level and then having to memorize what all those levels of proficiency...

    Pathfinder 1E PaizoCon 2010 News

160+ new feats = great thing. I trust the Paizo guys to print 160 feats worth taking versus Wizard's approach of printing 80 new feats in a Complete book where only 10 were worth the ink used. Feat chains = increased motiviation for the players in my games to create new characters...

    So how's Kingmaker working out?

Expanding on my earlier thoughts about Kingmaker and the mundane hex exploration that our group seems to be entrenched in, at the moment. Don't get me wrong, I think it's a solid adventure (I'm speaking to the first installment only), were I to judge it against some of the other classic sandbox...

Making the Universalist Wizard more appealing

Not having seen it in play, I was fairly "meh" about the Hand of the Apprentice. I finally had a player go Universalist, and use the ability with an Elven Curve Blade as the weapon - masterwork of course from the bonded item ability. She had an 18 Int, so +5 to hit wasn't too shabby. The...

    So how's Kingmaker working out?

I'll try to post as spoiler-free as possible. I'm still mixed. As a player in KingMaker, I was definitely interested in the opening activities, but as exploring each hex as dragged on, the encounters were a little mundane. What I mean is, "you enter hex A, you fight mundane monster CR2; you...
