    Room size and monsters

There have been plenty of times during our Adventure Path campaign when I have drawn out the room onto the mat and then worked overtime mentally trying to fit all of the stuff in the room into the space I have drawn. It can be very annoying and the example you gave is but one of dozens from that...

Chaotic Neutral Alignment should be against the rules!!!

I second what some folks have already said: alignment isn't the real issue here. Murder in my campaign world is going to be dealt with IN my campaign world. Remember, these people don't know what alignment is, they only know that someone killed the blacksmith in cold blood. Once the guards have...

    Types of Roleplaying Encounters

    47. The PCs are forced into a social situation (perhaps at a party) with their hated nemesis. They are unable to fight or attack, and must find a way to be civil. This makes the fight between them later all the better. "Madness in Freeport" does a good job with this.

    Deepwood Sniper, errata?

I have never seen a thread fall apart this quickly.:D

    Have gamers ever been tolerant?

I think this is just evidence of the basic human dislike of opinions that differ from our own. The problem is that the terms "roleplayer" and "powergamer" aren't defined in Webster and they mean very different things to different folks. I try not to use these terms because they can be...

    Hell in Freeport <*Spoilers*>

The answer I usually give is this: the NPC and you as DM are outnumbered 4, 5, or 6 to one. Not only do you get one action against numerous attacks by the party, but there are many brains competing with just your one. So yes, pull out all the stops. Ask yourself if Jalie considers the party a...

Seriously, though, do you prefer homebrews?

I run FR but I think of it as mine. I mean, almost every NPC is mine. I rarely use the more famous NPCs from the setting for more than cameos. I also don't do alot with the Uberplot that the novels portay except as background. I think campaigns about the PCs are best, so I keep the scale down to...

Which D&D splatbooks are the most useful?

I know its unpopular, but my players have used Sword and Fist ALOT more than the others. My personal choice (if I ever get to play  ) is Masters of the Wild.

As a DM, what aspects of the game do you feel weakest in?

I voted for Dungeon Crawls. For some reason, I feel like I am just hurrying PCs through and not taking the time to make it memorable.

    Any good dungeon crawls?

Pretty much anything by Necromancer Games. I would second Tomb of Abysthor and Hall of the Rainbow Mage. Both are good old fashioned dungeons with some roleplay opps.

    Ravenloft and Scarred Lands: Co-exist?

Thanks Nightfall. I did this once with a Forgotten Realms campaign. The last session was really cool because the players have "won" technically, but damn what a price! It is a nice mix of celebration and somberness.

Try this again -- how do you use PDFs?

I print up all the ones I buy, but I only get adventures for the most part. The only thing that is slightly annoying is that the maps don't line up on both sides very well.

[OT-Rant] What is UP with Talon Comics??

Is there some reason why Derek doesn't post here anymore? He used to be around all the time.

Statistical Analysis of the Classes - popularity vs. power

I am convinced that one must run a campaign that is balanced before the classes can be balanced. One has to have equal amounts of combat, dungeon delving, city settings, social gatherings, intrigue, wilderness travel/exploration, etc, etc. Very few of the classes excel at ALL of these things...

Why don't you buy non-WoTC stuff?

My LGS still has like 8 copies of The Horror Beneath. Does anyone remember that one? Jeez, was anyone unfortunate enough to have BOUGHT it? Makes me shudder just thinking about it.

Bow of True Arrows (SnF) for 6th level character; good idea?

It works just like the spell, so yes it only fires once per round. Plus, the arrows are not magical, they just roll 20s. So if a monster has damage reduction, the spell does not bypass this. The Rogue in my campaign has one and by 10th level it becomes almost useless, especially since it only...

    Ravenloft and Scarred Lands: Co-exist?

How about starting your campaign in the Scarred Lands and playing there for a while. See which villain your PCs become particularly embittered toward and then have the mists take him away just as they are on the verge of defeating him (but not during a battle with him, that would just be...

Greek, Roman, and my first campaign... HELP!

You could always run a couple of modules first as a mini-campaign and THEN start your real deal. Unless you have some time, this sounds like it would take alot of planning to pull off the right way. I have run too many things I was excited about only to be disappointed because I really didn't...
