    Stealth in Combat

No. It's more likely to balance against the ranger's double attacks. Yes. The ranger designates his quarry automatically w/ a minor action, the rogue has to make a stealth roll.

    Whatever happened to social combat?

This is not the "Skill Challenge" that made it into the DMG. The system must not have worked out in playtesting, or would have required too much work to iron out. I'm glas they focused on stabbing-combat instead of talking-combat anyway.

Ray of Frost and Cloud of Daggers; Red Headed Stepchildren of Wizard At-Wills?

no, "Damage from an attack or from a source that doesn’t require an attack roll destroys a minion. If a minion is missed by an attack that normally deals damage on a miss, however, it takes no damage." Cloud of Daggers damages w/o an attack roll (creatures that enter the AOE or start their turn...

Dwarf Fighter. Dwarven Resiliance is golden. Stat bonuses aren't everything.

    Stealth in Combat

I guess it depends on if your problem is with rolling lots of dice, or the brokenness of stealth. But it seems the designers intended for passive perception to be the default in stealth checks (in combat even), unless the creature spends an action looking for a hidden/invis enemy. Whether...

Help con retraining a 1st Level Power

I'd go with SSS. The target can't shift, so it would have to move to get away from you, and would draw an OA. That means you could save that rounds Combat Challenge for some other creature trying to shift past. Plus slow lasts at least one round, and possibly a couple more, so it seems better...

Where did my options go? - The New Paradigm

Actually "2(w) and slide target 3 squares" does give me a tingle up my spine, but great post. It's nice to hear from playtesters who've been at it for a few months. I've had similar observations: 3e= fun to tool around with character builds and template monsters 4e= fun w/tactics in-game

help me understand the sleep daily wizard power

I thought I understood how this power worked, but this actually threw me. this is all correct. um? You save against all conditions, ongoing damage(s), and persistent effects separately, disregarding the power that caused them. The caveat (save ends both) however, means the power's multiple...

    Stealth in Combat

It also says under Passive Checks (page 179): "When you’re not actively using a skill, you’re assumed to be taking 10 for any opposed checks using that skill. Passive checks are most commonly used for Perception checks and Insight checks..." So you are making an opposed check, but it assumes...

So Combat Challenge triggers OA against OA triggered by allies?

Everyone gets one OA per creatures turn and one Immediate Action per Round. So your rogue could draw an OA from the mob, and your fighter ally could use his Combat Challenge to attack the mob first (using his one Immediate Action that round). Now when the rogue moves back, the mob has used...

The new FAQ and armor proficiency

You don't need a proficiency in scale to meet the prereqs for the feat Armor Proficiency (Plate), you need "training" with scale armor. likewise the proficiency feats give training. If they had just listed the fighter, and other classes, with training in various armors rather than...

Stormwarden PP: Blade Storm and Twin Blade Storm

That first one. I see no reason why both can't work. (You could also deal damage to 3 different adjacent creatures)

    Stealth in Combat

Well, you could let the player use a static stealth skill, and, rather than rolling each turn, set the DC at Skill+10. Then the enemy uses its active perception to spot him (as a free action, not a standard). The player would just say, "stealth mode," and the DM would roll only when a creature...

New answers about spellbooks in the FAQ

This doesn't seem like a very good answer. What about a 15th level wizard who's replaced his first level daily spell with a fifteenth level daily? Does he prepare a 1st lev spell and then un-prepare it? link?

    A Wiz/lock's Spellbook?

What? That's even crazier. Do you have a link? I don't see how you can prep an exploit when it specifically says to "prepare a daily or utility spell."

    Polearm Gamble - Rules Clarification

And if you killed them w the OA, their corpse would remain on the other continent! :D Another oddity is that if the enemy were already adjacent to the Polearm Gambler and shifted to another adjacent square (to set up a flank or something) then the shifting rules DO come into play. Which is...

    Polearm Gamble - Rules Clarification

What's more specific? The rules for teleporting or the wording of a feat?

    Polearm Gamble - Rules Clarification

Specific beats general, so I'd say yes. That would mean teleporting, forced movement, standing up, and falling from the sky and landing adjacent to you all provoke. It definitely beats shifting b/c that reads: "If you shift out of a square adjacent to an enemy, you don’t provoke an opportunity...
