A funny thing happened on the way to the Dungeon

How many of you have planned for hours a great (in your own humble opinion) adventure only to have the party book the first tangent out of the storyline and end up hundreds of miles from where you want them to be? Do you play along and save the dungeon for another time or campaign, or do you...

    The mechanics of non-stop action

If its fairness or more realism you are after then maybe you should consider not allowing the Fighter to swing his sword all day or the rogue to lose focus after a while.

    Rediculous adventuring groups...

Well there were these 3 half-orc brothers with 18-90+ strengths (2nd edition) see, and while on a strange adventure the party got magically centrifuged see. So there we were all seperated nicely into whatever magical components make up a being and this cracked wizard (who's centrifuge we were...

    Using an assassins death-attack fairly

I think that's called cheese DMing. If I was the player who had played well and survived and the Assassin picked me then I would be a little suspicious. Cheese DMing is low, take the high road my friend, its more rewarding for all involved.

    Where did -10 come from?

so no more "off with the heads" then. "Sorry boss, can't chop his head off for you, but I can take him to zero and let the clock do the rest". actually in all seriousness I'm sure there's some house rule to cover that. However I like to see a greater range at which a character can be disabled...

    1001 worst character types

The angry feminist female dwarven cleric/fighter that won't heal anyone who she feels doesn't treat women right. The definition of right being "placed on a pedestal and worshipped". She wouldn't even heal the paladin because his weapon "a Greatsword" was "obviously phallic". My rogue volunteered...

Great uses for cursed items ...

all over the place, kuo-toa lairs, underdark, I'm sure I used it in an otyugh lair. Never once cleaned it. Found a bag of holding and thought great I'll put my cool stuff in it. It ate the stuff and now its working off it's debt so to speak.

Great uses for cursed items ...

I never asked it after it ate my rope of climbing. I figured that must've tasted bad too.

Great uses for cursed items ...

A bag of devouring along with some copper pipes and a decanter of endless water and you've got indoor plumbing. Works great for long sea or spelljammer voyages. No smelly latrines.

    Using an assassins death-attack fairly

Use action points as per unearthed arcana. Players can add or subtract a d6 to a d20 roll if they just miss a roll or someone criticals them. At 8th level they can use 2d6 take the best d6. It gives them a fighting chance against save or die type effects and keeps the consequences. Especially...

Would you give your 2nd level party 30 thousand gold?

Because they choke in the playoffs?

    My Avatar is Awesome

Mine is my son Joshua in a Frog bathtowel. He was only about 4 or 5 months old at the time. He's now 10 months old but I have yet to capture a better pic of him.

LOL, but intrigued none the less.

    Save or die

I tend to agree, however if you are using something like action point or hero points where a player can spend some points to add to a roll then I think that save or die can be used sparingly. I tend to try and think it through from the NPCs perspective. Casting a finger of death is not a viable...

    Druids are not Hippies!

I think balance of nature to a Druid is very different but also very important. In fact its the ability to leverage that balance that gives the Druid his power. A human sacrifice is a powerful lever from which the Druid could glimpse or effect the future. I think Druids were very opportunistic...

Would you give your 2nd level party 30 thousand gold?

So the gold didn't matter. It never does. You could have given them 100K each and what would have happened is that they would have spent what they could on magic items and run the market dry. Then they would have started buying big things like property and maybe ships. Then they would have to...

When Do You (GM) Kill PCs?

Only if its a true ressurection. Experience points are usually harder to come by. Plus I don't mini-max my characters so having the ideal set of magic equipment is much less essential for me. In a heavy hack/slash campaign then maybe, but I don't play or DM that kind of game. DMs tend to ramp up...

"....so we tossed the jerk out...."

Hold on people! We're here to talk about bad gamer behaviour, not to exhibit bad posting behaviour. Email and posting are very dangerous because context is rarely present in enough detail to allow us to know exactly what the other person means. So when someone makes what we think to be an...

How are you going to introduce your kids to gaming, if at all?

Hidden under the playboy mags? Absolutely brilliant.

How are you going to introduce your kids to gaming, if at all?

I think that's a healthy attitude so long as it applies to other aspects of their life, like sports, higher education, and choice of partner.
