Has the horse left the barn?

That's what I always wonder too. Are they really gaining more than they're losing?

Lone Wolf sends Cease & Desist letters to anyone using the term 'Army Builder'

Kudos to you sir. Real nice to see someone in the industry come forward and admit a mistake and do so with dignity.

Mike Mearls: Build your Adventures in OD&D

Shame you can't, I don't know, maybe buy a pdf of one of those old school adventures to use as inspiration. Wish there was some way of downloading some of those OD&D modules.

Lone Wolf sends Cease & Desist letters to anyone using the term 'Army Builder'

Is this the same forum that was all "torches and pitchforks" over internet piracy? While "Army Builder" may be a very questionable term to trademark, it is a trademark and they do have a right to protect it. Even if said methods were clumsy.

What kind of hit did DDI take a year after subscriptions started? Was it huge?

You overestimate what I said. I didn't say a failing line, I said a line with troubles. The extra revenue can easily help smooth things in a troubled line until it can get straightened out. Likewise, I did note that this was all speculation. ;)

What kind of hit did DDI take a year after subscriptions started? Was it huge?

Maybe you misunderstand my point. I don't think DDI has anything to do with the miniature's success or failure. My point is, that if DDI was such a huge revenue stream, it would prop up the other parts of the franchise that were having troubles. That doesn't seem to be happening. Look at it...

What kind of hit did DDI take a year after subscriptions started? Was it huge?

I think an important comparison that would need to be made would be: 1) What were revenues/margins for the years before DDI 2) What are the revenues/margins after DDI. If they're making money hand over fist with DDI subscriptions it may not matter if book sales dropped so much that overall...

No more WotC Star Wars - announcement

This. WOTC could completely shut downt the D&D brand and still keep trucking along just fine with Magic: the Gathering. It makes more money than D&D. Despite how important it is to us, D&D is actually pretty small potatoes.

No more WotC Star Wars - announcement

Oh yes, please! Disappointing to see the license go away, but I guess there's not much left to cover and the cost to carry it has to be high. I thought the SW minis were doing really well, but I guess that's subjective. Oh well, hopefully someone will produce some nice self-contained games...

    Pathfinder 1E Dear Paizo

Yes please. I certainly appreciate innovation in gaming, and like a variety of games that do things in different ways, but ultimately I really dig Role Playing Games. I'd love to see Post Apocalyptic and Sci Fi done in traditional RP ways without booster decks or boardgame-like simplicity.

Netbook: The Book of Forbidden Lore

Niiice! Like the work on the Eyeball and Eye Tyrant especially.

    Pathfinder 1E Opinions on Pathfinder

That is a good point about 4E, it has started to spread some of that non-combat info out into newer books, but that's also a problem for me. With Pathfinder, I get all the metallics and chromatics, their stats, and their flavor and rp info in one book. With 4E, I need 2 Monster Manuals and 2...

    Pathfinder 1E Opinions on Pathfinder

Which is a bit more streamlined than how it works in 3.5 Again, a nice little tweak that simplifies things a bit. Can still be complex, but better.

    Pathfinder 1E Opinions on Pathfinder

on Buffs and Pathfinder Dispel magic works a little differently in Pathfinder. It only dispels ONE effect per use (starting with the highest DC), not every possible spell effect you might be under. Still requires a little math on the fly to re-calculate, and you do have to roll vs. every...

Upcoming Changes to D&D Minis Line

My hope would be that they finally do themed sets, with specific assortments of related creatures. Maybe even larger boxed sets with all the monsters you need for a small adventure. I know those would have to be more expensive, but they might have broader appeal in the mass market.

What's so great about the Rune Domain?

Maybe its just a matter of taste. Maybe he really likes it for the flavor rather than just for the mechanics?

    Goodman Games solicits input

I'm not really sure that one module with multiple conversions will actually translate all that well. The difference in the way encounters and rewards are built in 4E is quite a bit different from its predecessors. You'd have to do more than just change the monster stats, you'd have to change the...

Pathfinder 1E WotC desperately needs to learn from Paizo and Privateer Press

Well, you don't have to know. But surely you can understand that some DO want to know? ;)

Pathfinder 1E WotC desperately needs to learn from Paizo and Privateer Press

Which I would gladly do. That's more my cup of tea than what the 4E MM1 and 2 were. But certainly not everyone's!
