D&D 5E What is your least favorite class in 5E?

100% agreement on this and I came here to say the same thing.

D&D General How Was Your Last Session?

30th session of my Dragon Heist/Deck of Many Things mashup. By now we are waaaay off track. Previously, the 3 player characters had chopped down a dozen members of the city watch and become Waterdeep's most wanted. Realizing this was bad (a classic case of too little, too late) they decided to...

D&D General How many of your 5E D&D books have you used?

I have 100+ D&D books from all editions in hardcover and a few dozen more in PDF. Not to mention a few dozen Pathfinder products. Specific to 5E, I have most of the hardcovers, plus D&D Beyond. I've not purchased most of the recent setting guides -- Eberron, Wildemount, Richtoffen's, and all...

D&D 5E Twitch Breach and huge data dump with some purporting CR earned $9 million over three years

I guess I haven't spent a whole of time thinking about how much money CR is making...but I hope it's a LOT more than $9 million. $9 million, minus overhead, minus taxes, split 7-ish ways, over 3 years, in Los Angeles? That's not enough to buy a house. I want the biggest nerds on the planet to...

D&D 5E Where We've Been and Where We Might Be Going (or, What I Think WotC Is Doing)

I think there is a low likelihood that anyone at Hasbro is worried that Gamma World might cannibalize market share from Transformers or GI Joe in the TTRPG space. It's a stretch that anyone at Hasbro is micromanaging the brands in that way. And even if they were, the risk of actual...

D&D 5E Where We've Been and Where We Might Be Going (or, What I Think WotC Is Doing)

I've been pondering why WotC isn't doing the Transformers and GI Joe RPGs. I suspect it might be simply because the Transformers/GI Joe business units have their own P&L, and any collaboration muddies that accounting. There might not be some master plan (or even discussion) between that business...

D&D 5E Do you think 5e is deadly enough and do you finish off downed characters?

In my 1-20 campaign with 5 characters I had 3 deaths. One at 5th level, one at 7th level, and one at 19th level. Only one of those was permanent. It was exceptionally hard to kill characters at high level (and I have issues with how combat runs and how monsters are built) but it can be done...

D&D General How Was Your Last Session?

29th session of my Dragon Heist/Deck of Many Things mashup. 6th level half-orc cavalier fighter, 6th level halfling swashbuckler rogue, and 6th level half-elf evoker wizard with one level of grave cleric. Previously, they'd managed to murder a squad of city watch that had been sent to arrest...

D&D 5E Where to next? (post LMOP)

Agreed. But I still think it would be easiest for new DMs if there was a clear sequel to LMoP.

D&D (2024) What do you want & expect to see in 2024's 5.5e?

My party got a huge buff and rarely failed saving throws thanks to the vengeance paladin's aura. It was cool for them but somewhat frustrating for me as the DM.

D&D (2024) What do you want & expect to see in 2024's 5.5e?

I'm in the camp that sees the core rules not changing, but the old classes and subclasses being revised to smooth out their rough edges. There's wide agreement in the community on which classes and subclasses need a tune up. I expect all sorcerer subclasses to get an additional spell list. I...

D&D 5E Where to next? (post LMOP)

It feels like a missed opportunity by WotC that there isn't a clear, obvious answer to this question. It comes up over and over again. So many groups have a great experience with LMoP...and then no idea where to go next. There really should be a sequel to that covers play in Tier 2: "Blank Blank...

D&D General How Was Your Last Session?

28th session of my Neverwinter campaign. 6th level half-orc vengeance paladin. 5th level drow evoker wizard. 5th level genie warlock. In the previous session the players were on a boat on the Neverwinter River that got attacked by a kraken. The boat was destroyed. The wizard was carried off by...

Free League Announces Blade Runner TTRPG for 2022

Should be great fun to play the most existentially depressing RPG ever.

D&D 5E How many encounters per day is YOUR average?

Sure. I mostly experienced this with warlock players, who blow their two spells and then spam eldritch blast for the rest of the adventuring day (which can easily span multiple sessions). But I've noticed it in a couple other instances, as well. My players tend to rest only when the majority...

D&D 5E How many encounters per day is YOUR average?

Yeah, I stole it from them. Which, I guess isn't technically stealing if you're running a 5E game.

D&D 5E How many encounters per day is YOUR average?

Also, regarding short rest vs long rest classes, my house rule is to allow short rest powers to refresh between encounters OR to let players to get a number of uses per day equal to proficiency modifier. Otherwise short rest classes become really frustrating for their players.

D&D 5E How many encounters per day is YOUR average?

I voted for 3. My combats are usually Deadly+ OR enemies come in waves OR both.
