    Let's discuss 6e!

It won't have dice or spells or characters. Combat will be resolved by the DM picking a number between one and twenty. If the dude across the world on the internet is within four numbers, he hits. Then the game is over and everyone goes to the nearest bar.

Good fonts for handouts (letters, books etc.)?

I see Blackadder everywhere. I used it once for a handout, and the commas all blended in with the bottoms of the letters, making it look like I was crappy at writing. It was a sad day.

Which D&D "sacred cows" will be sacrificed in 5E?

I've heard a lot about the game turning into an online table-top thing, but I just find that so unlikely. As much as people love technology, I think people like to interact with people face to face, and to touch real, tangible objects to play a game with. And especially with a game like D&D...

    A DM's best friend - a Guiding NPC

I have a problem where any guide type NPC I introduce feels too artificial. Or, he feels artificial to me, at least. I have another problem with it where the guide NPC is the only one the players ever want to talk to. Why talk to anyone else when you have the guide to give you good advice? I'm...

    I love AD&D

All this talk makes me want to try an AD&D game. I ran a Rules Cyclopedia one for a while, but my players found the combat too dull (which was probably mostly my fault--I think I needed more gripping descriptions). I got some AD&D books recently since they were so cheap and I figured they'd be a...

    Game Systems to Try

I got the free Geist quickplay rules and adventure from Free RPG Day, and the overall rules seem pretty cool. At first I thought Promethean sounded kind of dumb (for my tastes) but reading about it, it sounds kind of interesting. What is it you like about it?

    Game Systems to Try

I love Dungeons and Dragons, but lately I've been really wanting to branch out to other game systems. I don't even necessarily want to play them, but just have the books to read and mine for ideas. What I'd like are some recommendations for cool game systems. I'm mainly interested in the...

    I love AD&D

I've never played AD&D, but owning the 1st edition Dungeon Master's Guide, and I can say it is one of the best books for any game. Even beyond all of the tables and information, I've never read a game book written with such passion for the game and Dungeon Mastering. It's super cool.

Tell me about your favorite game store

He speaks the truth. The Bookery is probably my favorite game store too.

    Free RPG Day is Saturday!

Luckily, living to the west of you (near Dayton) I had a couple choices for places partaking in the event. The one I went to, in Yellow Springs, had a limit of two per person, which wasn't too bad. I got the World of Darkness one and the Warhammer 40K one. I was mainly interested in systems I'd...

How the heck did medieval war work? And other rambling questions.

Thanks everyone for the responses and information. The siege idea is excellent, and I hadn't considered it at all. Also, all of the suggested reading material is great, and I'll have to check it out. The idea for front line ghouls was especially cool, and would probably fit well with a lot of my...

How the heck did medieval war work? And other rambling questions.

In my upcoming game, I plan on the PCs living and adventuring in a kingdom currently fighting a two front war. I don't know if they'll get involved in the conflict yet, as for the moment I'm planning on having them mainly deal with internal affairs and conflicts. But, when I was thinking about...

    Small World

So far I have done the most ass kicking with the amazons. Those ladies just bust in and stomp any opposition. I also did pretty well some fortified Dwarves the other day. Still, Commando Ratmen are my favorite just because I like to say it.

Thoughts on my 4E anniversary, E1 and Paragon levels

I was really on the fence about going back to 4th edition after discovering the older versions of the game, but I think this thread is really making me want to try it again. I think I'll like the game more once I get the Monster Manual II. I was let down with the number of monsters, and I think...

What do your DM/GM Notes Look Like?

I used to plan so much. I had notebooks full of histories and encounters and maps and NPCS and so on and so forth. Any more, though, I just come up with a few names for NPCs, maybe a personality trait or two, and a general idea for something that I think would be cool to happen. After that, I...

    Small World

I just got the game today and gave it a few play throughs with some friends. A couple of them weren't sold on it, but I like it a lot. I feel like it's kind of hard to miss some of your little tokens on the board, though. They all kind of blend in to me.

Going from Rules Cyclopedia to 1st Edition?

Thanks Treebore for the in depth stuff about Castles and Crusades, and thanks to everyone else for their responses and advice! I'll probably check out C&C, as the price is so good I may as well. I looked into the Basic Fantasy RPG as well, and it looked like 3rd edition AC/attack rules with...

Going from Rules Cyclopedia to 1st Edition?

It looks like we'll probably be playing the game like everyone else used to, using the book as the base and adding anything else that seems cool. I think the RC might be my favorite incarnation of Dungeons and Dragons (and I came in with 3rd Edition). It makes me a little sad, though, being...

Going from Rules Cyclopedia to 1st Edition?

How easy is it to convert stuff to Castles and Crusades from other editions? I've been interested in the system since I first heard of it, but I've never really checked it out.

Going from Rules Cyclopedia to 1st Edition?

How bad of an idea would it be to just mix some 1st edition classes with rules cyclopedia ones? Would that be an awful idea, an ok idea or just a bad idea.
