How did D&D survive its early years?

How did it survive? Easy, a good group of imaginations and some easy house rules to clean up the bugs. For example:I 1st-level magic-users had one 1st-level spell. Our house rule was to give MU's the same bonus spells for high intelligence that clerics got for having high wisdom All...

    This is a Troll [meta-thread]

Takes great delight in this thread still being alive and well. Takes even more delight that the Gilligan's Island tangent that I started weeks ago is still a hot troll-within-a-troll. Quotes the above and writes that "Sherwood Schwartz, the creator of the Gilligan's Island series originally...

    [OT]Summer Job: Offshore Oil Rig?

This is a great example of why I love EN World. Where else would you: (a) Ever hear the above comment (b) Pass it off as normal conversation.

Who should be the villain in Daredevil 2?

Thanks for the info. It's been a few years since I've read the book. It is good to see that they have finally turned the Owl into a real villain. I remember back when he was more along the line of the villains from the 1960's Batman TV show (right down to the owl-shaped airplane).

Who should be the villain in Daredevil 2?

Well, you're centainly going back to the classic villains! I think we can forget about him, the owl or the eel, they'd be too silly for the feel of the DD films. I'd also skip Mr. Hyde, given both the Hulk movie and similar character in the League of Extraordinary Heroes film. I'd hold off...

    This is a Troll [meta-thread]

Agrees with jdavis, stating that they shouldn't even bother finishing the third Rings movie, and go straight to D&D II instead. Takes fiendish delight in luring both baradtgnome and MerricB back to the thread. Is also delighted that several people have latched onto both the anti-Tolkien and...

    League of Assassins - Conclusion

Chapter 16, “The Ancient Keep“, July 5, 1016, 1:00 P.M. The carriages travel north for approximately two miles, ending in an area with sizeable estates due west of the Lordholder’s Castle. They approach another castle, with an ornate gold-plated sign above the exterior iron gates that reads...

Who is going to be the next Comic Superhero to reach the Movie Screens?

Well, Marvel's track record is doing great with Blade, Daredevil, Spiderman and X-Men! Six sequels out of the first four films. As for the first BOMB, my bet is on Silver Surfer to tank, although 2004's Fantatic Four could bomb before it, as there are rumors that the script still needs a lot...

    Rank the Superhero films

OK lists so far, but you've left out some classics. I'd list them as follows (new entries in bold): 1. Superman (1979) 2. Spiderman (2002) 3. Daredevil (2003) 4. Superman (1948) - 15 Episode serial starring Kirk Alyn 5. X-Men (2000) 6. Batman (1967) - Feature film with Adam West & Burt...

    League of Assassins - Conclusion

Chapter 15, “Arrival of the Royals”, July 5, 1019, 7:00 A.M.: The day starts early again, with the construction workers making further changes to the building. The previous day all windows and unnecessary doors were secured shut. Cheveyo is helping the carpenters put up the catwalk. Mojo...

    Dungeon Magazine Quality Drop?

Re: Re: Dungeon Magazine Quality Drop? I agree. I have a wizard from a Japanese-based society who I consider to be Lawful Good, but he will also use his high intelligence to put together convincing lies to get the party out of difficult situations that would otherwise result in violence and...

    This is a Troll [meta-thread]

Silver Moon logs back into this thread, and is bothered that nobody latched onto any of the trolls-within-a-troll. Is very surprised that Seasong, MerricB, and baradtgnome did not respond either. Decides to give everyone a second chance, but logs in under wife's EN World account to make it...

    1001 Cool Combat Locations

Oh yeah, we had one similar to that too. #85 On the bridge of a starship, as the huge viewscreen had just shot out, and half the characters were sucked out into space (and this was a D&D game, not sci-fi).

    League of Assassins - Conclusion

Game #4 - 2/23/03 Chapter 14, “Look at all this stuff they gave us!”, July 4, 1019, 3:45 P.M. The stealth team had no sooner entered the great hall of Kulp’s Comfortable Castle when Narg instructed them to “Make yourself at home in here, and protect the items.” Narg and the fighters then...

    1001 Cool Combat Locations

Locations where some of the best battles from our D&D campaigns have taken place: 55. Inside of a vast Y-shaped Cathedral of Ukko, the balconies filled with enemy archers, with squadrons of enemy troops at every exit (full battlemat and miniatures for this one). 56. While climbing a huge...
