    Combat takes too long

While my experience has not given a 3-round combat, most of them were probably around 6 rounds, possibly a bit more. However, when almost all of the decision points are over after 3 rounds, the rounds after that become a lot faster. Just a little nitpick, but there is at least one good reason...

Warlocks/Wizards at Attack Disadvantage due to no "proficiency" bonus?

To echo those above me, the short answer is that they are not disadvantaged. Having said that, for some reason the first magic 'weapons' found were for the party Warlock and Wizard. At 2nd level, the Warlock has a to-hit against Ref equal to the Fighter/Cleric's to-hit against AC at 1st level...

    Developer Talk = Gospel?

I have to agree that it's not that the issue wasn't there before (I mean, when OotS makes a joke about it...source: The evil gnome druid saying, in effect, "Foolish Rogue! I have class abilities that are stronger than your entire class!"), it's that the terminology describing the issue has been...

    Wizard of the Spiral Tower

Er. You may find it nonsense, but it's written exactly as such in the PHB. You can change that in your game, but RAW is RAW. Tale: You never get a weapon proficiency bonus to attack rolls if the power does not have the weapon keyword. (Basically, that is what the weapon keyword tells you.)...

    D&D 4E The problem with 4e

At the very least, there are a few RAI views (which I admit should be more subjective than RAW) that should end all arguments; namely, the views of the people who wrote the RAW. Especially in what is essentially a technical document, they should be able to clearly define this. If they can't...

    Longspear strategy (or lack thereof)

I'll echo the sentiment that a Warlord wielding a Longspear is a potent force.

    Grading At-Will Powers

A few comments, here. One is that people really should note what their assumptions are regarding the play conditions. This does affect certain powers, and especially the arguments for or against them. Take, e.g., the argument of MM vs. other Wizard At-Wills. Some people say that the longer...

    Eldritch blast with sneak attack.

I think the clincher is that IIRC all weapons that can be used as implements specifically state that you cannot use the Proficiency bonus from the weapon (which applies to all weapon attacks) when using it as an implement. While I certainly agree that the wording could be more precise, even...

    Magic Weapons and Keyword Inheritance

It's possible that a Frost weapon's At-Will ability actually converts all of an attack's damage to cold instead of whatever it was. Thus, in their example, while normally the attack would do (in this case) Frost and Radiant damage, if the at-will ability of the Frost Weapon were 'online', it...

In substantial monsters hit point totals.

I'll also note that some insubstantial monsters have Regeneration, and thus get 'double' the hit points back from that compared to other monsters.

    Cure Light Wounds: Nearly Useless?

Just a point here. The group I'm running has two Leaders (Tactical Warlord, Melee Cleric), and they don't really worry about the number of healing surges. The only time people have gone down is because of burst damage.

    Commander’s Strike

In my game, I have a player who is playing an Eladrin Warlord who is wielding a Longspear (with Eladrin Soldier Training) and he does indeed Commander's Strike a _lot_. I find the wording here to be very clear. Whether that wording is intended can be argued, but the actual wording is clearly...

Twin Strike and Careful Strike Question.

I believe the sole number for this (the math is in a thread here) is... 21 needed to be rolled (after modifiers). Above and below this point, Twin Strike is superior. So, to answer your question of an average AC of a monster, there is none. Twin Strike is frankly superior in terms of average...

    Fighter Vs Paladin

As the gamemaster of my group, and having had our first session yesterday, I can say that the Fighter exerts a presence on the battlefield that, mechanically, a Paladin doesn't. I found myself multiple times per encounter cursing the fact that the Fighter was not a Paladin, and I'm the OpForce...

Hoards of Minions and 1st level characters

That's a neat trick, Celebrim. I might just steal that. ;) Re: Minions, it can come down to initiative. If the Wizard/AoEer gets the drop on the minions, they definitely are cut down to size quickly. If the Minions all go... well, that can get a bit hairy. My group now has a Cleric...

My warlock wants to stab you in the eye!

I'd like to chime in with a request for clarification on this issue. The Infernal Warlock in my group would dearly love to have his Dark Blessing boon stack, though he isn't asking for it.

How to improve Dragonborn Senses Feat?

I'm not exactly sure why 'Eladrin Soldier' is considered bad. I'm willing to be convinced, but a blanket +2 to damage for our party's Eladrin Warlord is something he's very enthusiastic about. In fact, with that, he does the most damage of any party member with almost all attacks.

Why Dragonborn fighters should have low Con

The other use of a Dragonborn's breath weapon is (as a Fighter) to mark everyone attacked by it. Damage (even hitting) is not important to that. Having said that, I'd look askance at any Fighter that did not have at least a 14 Con.

    Shouldn't most Rituals be free?

I'll note that in my group Knock looks like it will be quite useful. The Warlock might have Thievery, might not. Even if he does, the Wizard's (and the Warlord's!) Arcana skill would be much higher than his Thievery skill. As such, the Knock ritual definitely has its benefits. Further, I...

    Skill Challenge success calculator

Did someone say 'Markov chains'? ... but you know, you're right. A Skill challenge could be modeled with a Markov process, but I think it would get a bit unwieldy quickly. I think also that a Markov process analysis is a bit too much work, considering that the underlying probability...
