    Streetwise skill not needed

Personally, I would allow 'monster knowledge' of the civilized races (i.e., the races in the PHB) be handled with Streetwise. And, as others here have mentioned, Streetwise has _always_ been the skill of 'surviving on the streets'.

    Illusion Power Inconsistencies

Max: I don't have my books currently with me, but I do seem to recall a few powers in the PHB that have slightly different effects (similar to the power under discussion) on a hit or miss. I believe one's a Rogue power; the one I can clearly 'see' is the Warlord's 'Feather Me Yon Oaf' power.

    Halflings - What's the Attraction?

Wizards can use every At-Will power they can get. Thus, Human Wizards are quite nice. Also, if you plan on multiclassing at Paragon Tier, Humans get two At-Wills from 1st-level class and one from '11th level' class. Combine that with the extra feat you get to take a multiclass option to...

Ochre Jelly Split + Healing surge

I think a better Jelly question would be whether or not the two Ooze halves also split. Depending on the way you read this, we have two 'new' oozes, and if so, they should be able to split.

Doomsayer's Proclamation: Am I Missing Something Here?

While I like Kordeth's 'solution', why not just 'port over the Oracle's ability, replacing 'attacking Will defense' with 'Fear keyword'. IOW, you get to the better of two rolls whenever you use a Fear power.

    Wizards, need your input.

I'll note that my resident Warlock-player in 3.X moved to Wizard in 4E. She's still getting into the swing of things, but there's nothing in actual write-up of the spells that makes them worse, per se, than others. It does seem that the Arcane power source 'shades' everything into a more...

A request to the Community: Information about your party's skills

As soon as I have the info, Stalker, I'll get it to you. I know I have one or two people with a +10 or +11 in Arcana (Eladrin).

    What's up with Scimitar Dance

Something that my brother also pointed out: A Scimitar is the only Heavy Blade that a Halfling can wield in one hand. All the others are either 2-H or Versatile.

Where did my options go? - The New Paradigm

Lizard: One point in your latest post that I wanted to address. The Fighter, by all accounts, is most certainly not 'meant' to clear minions. That is the Controller's job. Certainly, your Fighter (with Scorching Burst) does that better than most (and note that it Marks either way, which I'm...

D&D 4E Showing the Math: Proving that 4e’s Skill Challenge system is broken (math heavy)

Two: While I think most people in this thread are quite pro-4E, you must admit that there seems to be quite a contingent of people on these forums for which 'any stick will do'. Something that seems to fall out of the math is the fact that the +5 DC makes the likelihood of succeeding in any...

D&D 4E Showing the Math: Proving that 4e’s Skill Challenge system is broken (math heavy)

That makes an assumption that I do not think is valid. Specifically, they assume a balance point for WotC that may not be correct. From my simulation, it seems that the 'balance point' for a level 1 skill challenge is needing a roll of 8. You have a 0.43-0.42 probability of succeeding at the...

D&D 4E Showing the Math: Proving that 4e’s Skill Challenge system is broken (math heavy)

... but if that's the case, then people are objecting over nothing. Granted, the probabilities are low, but unless you need a low number (IOW, a 0.7 probability of winning any check), the paradigm holds. I guess what I'm trying to say is if WotC expects you to need to roll an 8 to succeed on a...

D&D 4E Showing the Math: Proving that 4e’s Skill Challenge system is broken (math heavy)

Okay, here's something very odd. ***HUGE DISCLAIMER -- I am a beginning programmer*** I just wrote in the past hour or so a simple little program to simulate a given number of trials for each complexity. It's very simple, but I wanted something simple before I started complicating it...

Flat Healing Without Using a Surge--Infinite Daily HP?

Certainly a character can be a credible threat to the other characters. As soon as he is, he becomes an NPC under my control. The person who used to control that character will have a discussion with me after the game to see whether or not he'll still be in the group. This is going from...

D&D 4E Showing the Math: Proving that 4e’s Skill Challenge system is broken (math heavy)

Aegir: But it doesn't. If you see my previous post regarding this, you'll note that 'around 11+ to succeed' seems to be the reigning success paradigm in 4E. As such, that puts the DC15 check right aroung the correct mark for an attack. Note that the AC modifier is +2, the same as the normal...

D&D 4E Showing the Math: Proving that 4e’s Skill Challenge system is broken (math heavy)

Well, on p.74, it lists in narrative form your options during a skill challenge, it seems. Either primary skill, secondary skill (once), or Aid Another. I perfectly agree that if you fail an Aid Another check, it doesn't increment the failure count. OTOH, this is what people seem to be...

D&D 4E Showing the Math: Proving that 4e’s Skill Challenge system is broken (math heavy)

I took using Aid Another to be your action (in lieu of another attempt) to be understood. Rereading, I think I'm understanding the issue involved with the skill table at least. It's to avoid the Take 10 issue. If a Moderate difficulty task were DC 15 at level 1, virtually anyone trained in...

D&D 4E Showing the Math: Proving that 4e’s Skill Challenge system is broken (math heavy)

On the point of Aid Another, a Half-Elf's social skills go up dramatically (NPI) if allowed. The +1 to everyone's Diplomacy helps everyone Aid Another on the Half-Elf's Diplomacy checks. Twould be a nice insight (again, NPI).

D&D 4E Showing the Math: Proving that 4e’s Skill Challenge system is broken (math heavy)

Whereas I can't speak for the D&D designers and their math abilities, I do know, for certain sure, that some WotC employees (most of the older Magic R&D people, at the very least) are math nuts, and I cannot imagine, in the least, that they let something like this out without checking to make...

Magic Items and their resale value

Interesting discussion (like the older one). I might point out to Ridley that if you are speaking to a merchant, he gives you X money for a Magic sword, and then you want to spend X money on some other item that that merchant has... didn't you just revert to a barter system? And, if so, why...
