Axanar meets legal resistence from CBS

Care to elaborate, because honestly, the only actual leg I think fan fiction/films have ever really had is 'too small to bother with', and Axanar doesn't really seem to gave that either.

    Well played ;)

    No Winter Yet

To be fair, given that the delay will allow him to finish (ie, it's not just revisions), yes, a finished product will be better than an unfinished one.

Martin has always/long maintained the last book will be titled A Dream for Spring.

    Star Wars Spoilers Thread [Spoilers]

That's why I asked for clarification ;) Because when Umbran pointed out audience and critics found Rey plenty accessible, you replied with, in part: Which implies you think the audiences and critics were, in part, tricked into finding her more accessible than she "actually" was, rather than...

    Star Wars Spoilers Thread [Spoilers]

Audiences and critics seem to have overwhelmingly agreed Rey is an accessible character. To me, your comments make it sound like they all think she isn't and are just playing along, or were tricked into thinking she's more accessible than you, a "true and honest" critic, believe. I'm not saying...

    Fury over Black Hermione Granger

Well, I did say "female-presenting" ;) While yes, adaptations can certainly change established facts of a character, I was specifically saying that in order to remain true to what was established on Hermione's physical attributes, such was needed.

The Prequels, Episodes I-III. What did you like about them?

I've not seen them, but my understanding is that this is why the Fan Edit versions of the prequels seem to meet with success. They edited out a lot of the silliness. They can't fix a bad script, but good editors can certain mitigate the damage of one.

Perhaps not what you intended to say, but that comes off very strongly as a No True Scotsman argument...

    Fury over Black Hermione Granger

You can rail against this all you wish, but English-speaking society has settled into a general consensus that "white pride" means "white supremacy". You can try to claim you're "taking it back", but I wouldn't suspect you'd get much support (except perhaps from racists trying to make their...

    Fury over Black Hermione Granger

Exactly. Hermione's race not being established in the books simple means that any adaptation shouldn't feel constrained to only look at white actresses. This is not saying that they *can't* use white actresses, simply that the only physical criteria for the actor/actress are: - age-appropriate...

    Star Wars Spoilers Thread [Spoilers]

/Film does a breakdown of TFA using the official script (submitted for awards considerations), which reveals several clarifying details: http://www.slashfilm.com/star-wars-the-force-awakens-ending/ As discussed in this thread, Rey was left with Unkar Plutt. Other interesting bits: Those are...

    Fury over Black Hermione Granger

No, only your strawman is saying that. I'll grant that I misremembered your views from the other thread, if only so this thread doesn't devolve into the same arguments on it. Although to be fair, my understanding is that self-defense is an affirmative defense - which means you need to prove...

    Fury over Black Hermione Granger

Oppression isn't done by an individual on another; it's generally an implicit, and possibly unintentional, leverage behind a person's action due to institutionalized bigotry. Given the experiences black people have gone through in America, and how they were treated by white people who called...

Axanar meets legal resistence from CBS

I would suspect their issue has little to do with the setting details of Axanar, and is more about the "not-for-profit" debate - if the only guidelines given were "not for profit and don't use unpublished material" and you know you're not using unpublished material, then the sticking point is...

Axanar meets legal resistence from CBS

Ok, thanks for the clarification. I misinterpreted Peter's comment of "they gave us no specific guidelines" as "no guidelines", but apparently there are more details than that if there was some sort of "initial starting point". I can see how a layperson such as us could infer inconsistency, but...

Axanar meets legal resistence from CBS

They didn't give nebulous guidelines. They gave *no* guidelines. Beyond recognizing you're trying (and possibly succeeding) to be witty, I have no idea what you're trying to imply here.
