    I miss CG

Sorry, must have misunderstood. I thought you meant that was the standard way. Of course one way to play a chaotic alignment is to be a bit crazy. Still almost all chaotic characters I have created have been sane, if perhaps with an outlook that not every person of the modern society shares...

    I miss CG

I think I am missing a joke here. Or, does chaotic really imply mental problems to you? In that case, scary...

    Five Alignments?

I think I interpret either the Golding's book or the alignment system different from you. And I really don't think a PoL setting means less use of something like LE or CG. The secret freedom fighters in the evil empire having only a few safe havens left... ?

    Five Alignments?

This a change that I don't like, from what is known so far. Ok, I don't really like alignments at all, but this a change from a bad system to something a lot worse, it seems.

    D&D 4E No Roleplaying XP in 4e

I ran a Vampire chronicle for a number of years and our group made our own version of that. After each session points were given out for learning, participating, roleplaying the character and (sometimes) for being in danger. Our ritual was that everybody helped explain what the other players'...

    D&D 4E No Roleplaying XP in 4e

In a way I have always given out roleplaying XP, as I have always given the same XP to players that used non combat ways to get through a problem as those who fought their way through. Individual RP XP awards though, I stopped doing 20 years ago. Why? Because everyone wanted to roleplay well...

Excerpt: You and Your Magic Items

And right there I see something that in my little mind is the core of the problem. Sorry if I am misreading you, but this is what it looks like to me: You look at the story and the campaign as yours, and more or less yours alone. While most players these days want to do their part in all of...

    Excerpt: Economies [merged]

Am I missing something here? Isn't all of this a discussion of the economy of magic items in a fantasy world, of the DM's making, choosing or tweaking? How trade of such commodities is handled in the parts of the world where the PCs travel is basically the DM's decision, as long as it is...

    Players reading the MM

Players reading stuff not to do with their own PC's abilites during active encounters? That is one of my pet peeves, whether I am a DM or just another player. When we are playing, we are playing - not just hanging around waiting to be entertained. During a break, or at a time when that player's...

Excerpt: You and Your Magic Items

Agreed. And as DM and story writer I am really happy to be without it. Why? Because now I don't have to cheat to keep secrets about magic items from my players. If I want my players to gradually figure out how a certain unusual item works over several adventures I can do that without bending...

    New "confessions" article

She does look hot in the pic. To me though, she looks even more hot in her words. Witty, clever, imaginative and with a great ability to make fun of herself. The fact that her writing helps opening up the market for RPGs is just icing.

Excerpt: You and Your Magic Items

To start my first real post here with something obvious: I think many of us here are in the same situation. We are planning our first 4th Edition campaign, reading every tidbit of info and analyzing how it will work with how we like to DM and the game we have planned out. My gut reaction was...

The Official Welcome Thread - Version 2.0

Intro Hi! Have been lurking for a while, finding this the D&D discussion forum that I keep coming back to. Main interest at present is 4th Edition D&D, and especially the campaign that I plan to start running in August. I am one of those people with 25 years+ experience of the game. Still...
