    D&D 5E Guidelines for fewer/tougher encounters?

Its been about a year since then I'm probably remembering the number of sleeps wrong considering how much that spell pissed me off for the first month. I play on roll20 unless the map had ridiculously large rooms most the time you can hit 3 goblins with a 20 foot aoe. Between him shutting down...

    D&D 5E Guidelines for fewer/tougher encounters?

All good examples my favorite enemy for my party is literally a cultist I bumbed up to level 7 and gave wall of fire to

    D&D 5E Guidelines for fewer/tougher encounters?

My example of a good combat encounter for my players was 5 goblins with 5 class levels. Also its only combat listed cause we are discussing combat. I'd say more then half our games are out of combat. They once spent an hour investagating a statue because I said. You don't see anything special...

You get it that weak encounter system doesn't even slow most experienced players down

    Magic missile conversion question

Agreed I think downgrading elements on a spell should be fine. I don't think fire and poison should be changeable cause they are so common but things like force are resisted so little that you are weakening the spell over all. So I'd allow the element changed.

    D&D 5E Guidelines for fewer/tougher encounters?

Example first encounter in the entire game players rolled hier initiative and cast 2 sleep spells then one shoted the 5 goblins. Second encounter went the same way except this time I think the mobs got 4 total attacks. Short rest warlock gets 2 more sleeps shuts down half of each of the next 2...

    D&D 5E Guidelines for fewer/tougher encounters?

I disagree I've found any decent blayer tears through medium encounters so fast they don't feel challenged. Anything less then deadly in this system and players can finish it in a couple rounds using nothing but basic attacks and cantrips leaving them bored.

Generally 2 and I balance them around 1.5. Usually I put them super low on resources or out.

    Magic missile conversion question

You can cast any apell you know with any slot Its lwvwl or higher. 4 lst slots and 2 2nd that means 4 lvl one casts and 2 lvl 2 casts.

    D&D 5E Guidelines for fewer/tougher encounters?

I don't have that issue 3 of my 5 players have some kind of targeted healing. I'd say one person goes down for a round or two in 1/3 of my encounters. I am nice though and don't attack downed players.

    D&D 5E Guidelines for fewer/tougher encounters?

The goblin wizard in a forest is insane fireball turning 20ft of forest into a hazard the bonus action hide and players should have a -2 or -4 for smoke and fire on perception checks to find it

    D&D 5E Guidelines for fewer/tougher encounters?

Quick easy solution class lvls. 5 goblins ohh this is easy. 2 lvl 5 golbin barbs, a lvl 5 goblin wizard, and 2 lvl 5 goblin clerics. Suddenly not the kind of encounter to take lightly.

D&D 5E Not liking Bounded Accuracy

+3 is the highest listed plus for magical weapons in 5e a +8 is a maxed stat and using an artifact weapon which are supposed to ne almost impossible to get.

    D&D 5E Sun Soul Monk

My game has a monk of the bird race I can't spell correctly it allows him to do a lot while staying out of AoO range

D&D 5E Crafting Scrolls and Brewing Potions

I guess I just can't understand why cost to make something is the same as cost to buy it. The PHB says a healing potion costs 50 the DMG 50 to make lol. I'd find a new career and let the adventurers die

D&D 5E Clerics of Life: Broken, Bad Design, or Working as Intended?

Trap them in a 60ft hallway 1 tank 1 caster on each side. The caster covers his side of the hallway with wall of fire and then hides behind the tank. Suddenly the party has to find a way out right now or they are going to die. Another cool thematic change I love is anything that has natual...

D&D 5E Clerics of Life: Broken, Bad Design, or Working as Intended?

Take a look at the cultist in the MM it has lvl 3 spells treat it as a caster 1 lvl higher then the party. Throw a small group of them together using the highest lvl slots they have for aoes and do a couple small encounters then 1 big one. In my experience that uses up heals quickly.

D&D 5E Clerics of Life: Broken, Bad Design, or Working as Intended?

You have to be careful when you build encounters with that many enimes the encounter xp system isn't designed to figure more then 20 enemies. So you can't accurately calculate difficulty the encounter multiplier increases evwry 3-4 monsters. If I had to guess I'd say that encounters multiplier...

D&D 5E Crafting Scrolls and Brewing Potions

I work in sales and marketing and you'd go out of bisiness doing that. I have a player who wants to start a merchant empire and it seems there is no built in support for it. Here is my exampl you order a large drink frim mcdonalds they charge you a dollar it costs them 13-18cents depwnding on...
