    Novice DM Looking for Advice

"Maybe I should be." Of course more often than not, those sorts of responses will come off as snarky, petty and vindictive. That won't help anything. In order to take care of a devious, manipulative player, you need to equally devious and manipulative in turn, but in a completely different...

Just be warned... If you are going to do this, make sure that you are prepared for him to answer, "Yes, I would love to DM!" and for him to be better at DMing than you. Because it could happen.

I, personally, think option 3 will be the simplest, easiest and best option. If we are collectively judging the round, then we should collectively choose the ingredients as well.

Hrm... That can can make it easier or more difficult, depending on him. Here's the thing to remember... The DM of a group, like it or not, is the de facto leader. You need the respect, confidence and trust of your players in order to have the authority to make judgments and rulings over what...

Is this guy someone you'd normally consider a good friend outside the game? Or is he just an acquaintance that you happen to game with?

First, a little clarification... Is it the player who is manipulative and devious out of game? Or is it the character that he's playing that's manipulative and devious within the game? It makes a big difference. Also, how is this devious manipulation causing problems?

So, I've decided that I hate roleplaying

Although, I must say, in the right circumstances i can thoroughly appreciate a thick, campy, stereotypical accent. Just don't overdo it... Use it for occasional emphasis of a character's personality. Constant use of such accents and silly voices can get real old real fast.

    Names?

If you're running a modern-ish game, or aren't looking for overtly fantasy-ish names, this one is great. It uses real first and last names from the last US Census. You can adjust it for "obscurity", and generate lists of up to 30 names at a time. At Obscurity 99, you get names like: 1...

So, I've decided that I hate roleplaying

It's too bad you don't live closer to Chicago... I've got an open seat at my table right now. Lately, my players have taken to humming the theme to the A-Team, every time they kick down a door, and rush in with steel swinging and spells blazing.

So, I've decided that I hate roleplaying

You are not alone. I DM for a whole group of gamers who are not too different from you. They just want to hang out with friends, shoot the :):):):) a bit, eat some pizza, drink some beer, run around a dungeon pretending to be wizards and elves, kill monsters and take their stuff. It's like...

Iron DM 2010: All Submissions and Judgments

THE HAPPIEST PLACE ON EARTH Bianca is the girl with pigtails. She’s a stereotypical spoiled little brat. Reading through the adventure, I kept envisioning her as an older version of "Darla" from the movie Finding Nemo. She doesn’t seem to serve a great deal of purpose in the adventure, other...
