Plight of the New RPG: Shattered Dawn - Part 2

To be honest, I've been pretty disappointed in this article series. The author seems to delight in making unfounded claims, refusing to give evidence to back them up, and tarring other groups (younger gamers, wargamers, etc) with his own prejudices. His comments here about Warhammer especially...

Eberron It Is? [UPDATED & CONFIRMED!]

That's... interesting. Hard to imagine that it won't be confusing to have Gnolls appear on Dndbeyond but with a big disclaimer saying "ONLY IN EBERRON!!!". Maybe they'll create a new dog race (one of the big missing options) and then say, "By the way, in Eberron these guys are called Gnolls"...

Core Rules Alternative Cover Gift Set

They redid the DM screen half a year ago. You'll find it now as the DM Screen Reincarnated, has new tables on the back.

    Playing D&D much faster

I've found the opposite. The grid can let players instantly know where they are in relation to the bad guys. Some players, in TotM, will ask at the start of every one of their turns for a precise tabulation of where the bad guys are, how many feet apart the two bad guys are from each other, etc...

    Sanctuary plus Spirit Guardians?

This came up in my game. I assume that most Clerics have eventually hit on the combo, and queried it with their DM. For my part, I ruled that Sanctuary was annoying enough already, no way was I letting it combo with Spirit Guardians :D

Baldur's Gate Designer Leaves Bioware To Form D&D Publishing Company

It reads a bit like he just wants to relax and enjoy some writing for a while, spend some time not dealing with corporate politics or the hellish work/life balance at a major games developer. I'm always up for Ancient Greek theme, will have to try and keep an eye out for this.

"Stream of Many Eyes" -- WotC To Announce New Storyline In June

Yeah, Beholders, Mind Flayers, and Modrons are all conspicuous by being IP-specific but as yet mostly unused by the adventures. Of course, that might be due to them being kinda weird and not fitting into the 'standard fantasy' vibe that new players might expect, so perhaps they've deliberately...

Black Panther and Tomb of Annihilation

Some great ideas here. One easy way to bring that post-Wakandan theme might be to add special teleportation circles, located at all the important places (Nangalore, Omu, Mezro, Port Nyanzaru, etc) which they can use to speed up the travel towards the end of the adventure. Naturally these would...

Black Panther and Tomb of Annihilation

One thing that the film did is to crystallise a niggling concern about the adventure: that it presents this interesting and vibrant melange of African cultures in the Chultans, and then starts the story off in such a way as to prevent anyone from actually being a person from Chult! As written...

Black Panther and Tomb of Annihilation

Hey all, So I cannot have been the only person to view BP as highly inspirational for a ToA campaign. What changes or improvements come to the collective minds now that we’ve got some highly visible afrogeekism to draw on? If nothing else, I know what soundtrack to play during character...

D&D 5E The many and fabulous bazaars of Port Nyanzaru - and beyond

Coming back to this thread to offer my thanks CapnZapp for the work. It's interesting stuff, and certainly also shows your philosophy on magic items. One thing that I've found as an effective method of helping out parties who struggle with the (generally more difficult than the DMG suggests) big...

    D&D Beyond: Halflings

That's the rub. I myself like almost all the fluff this edition, so I'm perfectly happy with having fluff and rules mixed together to form a more attractive whole. (About the only thing I don't like in the fluff is the Tieflings - I still prefer Planescape's mixed parentage approach.) If you...

    D&D Beyond: Halflings

I really enjoyed this video. I'm a fairly traditional guy when it comes to fantasy, and I'm happy to stick to the tropes; this depiction of the Halflings feels like a good way to explaining their culture and religion in a package that the players can understand easily. The essential problem with...

Altered Out of The Abyss: Is this idea viable?

I'd just use the book as a setting inspiration manual, and ignore the plot threads that tie the locations together. There is plenty of excellent inspiration (and legwork done for you) with the descriptions of Gracklestugh, Darklake, Blingdenstone and whatnot. Put your own plot on top and you're...

D&D 5E How would you handle a healing economy?

It's worth noting that the exact situation you're dealing with there is not your common or garden variety disease. From what I saw in the Neverwinter MMO, the Spellplague was basically chaos mutation (like Warhammer, which I suspect it was inspired by) that was caused by the shattering and messy...

D&D 5E D&D Beyond video on Mind Flayers

That sounds pretty convincing, then! Lantan is Airship and Wizards land, right? Sounds like a way of doing a stealth-Eberron adventure, perhaps - one with an ostensible Faerun location, but a ten page appendix listing how to adapt it to Eberron.

D&D 5E D&D Beyond video on Mind Flayers

Ah, interesting. Has that podcast been reliable for this sort of precognition in the past? I was thinking that you might mention that crashed airship in Tomb of Annihiliation, which I've not gotten up to in my read-through. That would fit Chris Perkins' apparent love of subtle foreshadowing for...
