D&D 5E Tomb of Annihilation mounts

I remember you! You're the Quetzalcoutlus "Murder-storks" guy from the Let's Read Volo's thread! :D

D&D 5E Tomb of Annihilation maps

Another option you have is to go for the Gale Force 9 map set coming out soon - it's white hexes on a dry-wipe surface, so you can draw (or whatever) the contents as the players explore. It's £30 I think, but might not be that much more expensive than your intended method. Just a suggestion.

    D&D 5E Adventure Satisfaction Poll

I thought about opening the poll up to both players and DMs, but thought that it would be more valuable to limit to just the DMs at first. Also, and not unimportantly, this forum is very heavily focused towards DMs (unlike reddit.com/r/dnd), so it seemed simpler to focus the sample accordingly...

    D&D 5E Adventure Satisfaction Poll

Hey all, So I got to wondering... we talk a lot about the adventures here, but I'm not sure that we've ever quantified whether people liked them. With Tomb of Annihilation now sinking into the background a little, now seems a good time to try and do that. The above poll is simple: for each...

D&D 5E So, anyone else think we might be getting an Undermountain module soon?

I just had a look at the table of contents for that book. Is 7 pages on the city really that “insane”?

    D&D 5E Xanathar's: Ranger - Gloom Stalker

I think that the Gloom Stalker’s invisibility is the sort of thing that will depend a lot on your DM. If the DM loves the idea, then your campaign will feature teams of Duergar and Orcs trying to sneak around in the dark, prime pickings for the Stalker; but if (s)he doesn’t fancy it, then...

    Xanathar's Guide To Everything Reviewed

I found the Xanathar's comments to be pretty useless, to be honest. Neither interesting or amusing. That's wonderful stuff. I love it.

D&D 5E No good deed goes unpunished

My big concern would be about giving the players a moral lesson that the only people they can trust with money is themselves. That could lead to unheroic behaviour in the future! That said, I do agree that this is a cool plot hook. I’d maybe aim to have a split in the village – those wanting to...

D&D 5E ToA: Dance of the Seven Winds *SPOILERS*

It’s an interesting oversight for the Ritual to not specify whether it’s intended to get the party there in one go. You’d think so, the city is just in range for that duration. I mean, I think there are three options. Firstly, the party is intended to get to the city ‘straight away’, narratively...

    D&D 5E Xanathar's Guide to Everything: Dungeon Master's Tools.

Yeah, it was pretty boring. No real insights or new information. It does all sound useful stuff, to be fair! I’m curious to see the common magical items list; will ammunition and weapons of +0 make an appearance, for example?

D&D 5E Sage Advice Compendium updated

I’m not sure what I expected to find in this thread, but a deep and detailed discussion of jumping is not it. :D

    D&D 5E Xanathar's Guide to Everything: Spells

When I was watching this video last night, and Crawford said, “I could talk about these new spells all day!”, I simply nodded and thought, “Please do.” Some of the new options sound a little boring but useful gap-filling - “How do Druids create their groves”, sort of thing. But I am really...

D&D 5E Power Level of "Raise Stat to 19" Items

Interesting. I’ve not looked at Starfinder at all, but is there a lot of this going on? Pathfinder and 3.5 are pretty old these days, so it’s interesting to hear that they’ve tried to stay within the wheelhouse but also fix the leaking roof, so to speak.

D&D 5E Power Level of "Raise Stat to 19" Items

One thing that I once did for a high level start - I think it was a level 9 party after a TPK in Princes - I myself chose 2 interesting items per character, then gave a list to the party and told them to choose who got what. It worked pretty well, actually; I included some mundane stuff (+1...

D&D 5E Xanathar's Guide to Everything: Gloom Stalker Subclass

It's a fighter strongly themed around duty to a lord. That makes it a very interesting class from a world-building perspective, and also makes it a great option for the 'dutiful servant' theme in character creation.

D&D 5E Xanathar's Guide to Everything: Gloom Stalker Subclass

I feel like you just described an NPC, not a PC class, really.

D&D 5E What do you want in a published adventure? / Adventure design best practices?

Yeah, I agree with all of this. It’s happening a lot in Rise of Tiamat right now, and it’s driving me spare. Having to say, “okay… it’s a trapezoid room… uh… 25 feet wide – wait, these are ten feet squares – 50 feet wide...” is not helping my aura of calm omniscience that I aim to cultivate as a...

D&D 5E Xanathar's Guide to Everything: Gloom Stalker Subclass

I wasn’t that excited by this class, for some reason. Crawford clearly loves it, but the description he gave here didn’t grab me. It seems to lack interesting story potential (unlike the Zealot or Ancestral Spirits Barbarians, for example), open up new and exciting options (like the Samurai or...

    D&D 5E Xanathar's Bard College of Swords

Sounds fun. I suspect that the “not focused on buffing others” is a hint that Valor will retain the niche of being the guy who buffs AC and damage rolls, even if Swords becomes the premier shiv-bard.
