D&D 4E The EN World "Build A Ridiculously Complicated Character for D&D 4e" thread.

I think in actual play, a massively-multi-classed bard has got to be one of the most complicated PCs to play. He's got options out the kazoo. Tons of immediate reactions & immediate interrupts. He's got something to do for almost every action that happens on the battlefield, often changing...

    Voting for Rarity?

Prone is not a verb. :) I think maybe you mean Hungry Spear. But I get your point. Of course, there are others way to partially (but not completely) achieve this (or nearly the same), such as Farbond Spellblade Glaive or Talenta Sharrash (either at range 5/10)or any Cahulaks (not as much...

    Voting for Rarity?

Rare = character-defining, right? Holy Avenger has been represented as the archetype of "rare," right? And yet, when I read through the weapon, it is hardly what I'd call "The most prized weapon of any paladin." The old version of this in previous editions were that exactly, but this version...

Sagiro's Story Hour: The FINAL Adventures of Abernathy's Company (FINISHED 7/3/14)

Hmmm.... just maybe he's just skipping a month, just like WoTC? :)

D&D 4E In D&D 4e, is there any ability by Enemies that will silence a caster?

This is, generally, counter to the 4e game design.

D&D 4E In D&D 4e, is there any ability by Enemies that will silence a caster?

The only real disadvantage of having no weapon is missing out on opportunity attacks. For that reason alone, the cleric should have a weapon.

    New Essentials Builds!

Expected result of 55 vs. 44. That's a pretty big difference, isn't it? 25% more damage.

Moridin, Since you are kind enough to be here: Any chance of getting the "Ki Focus" rules fixed (see post number 1 for the issue and what I think is a good start on the fix)?

    Assassin Feedback

Well, sure. This discussion is about feedback that has (or will) go to WotC. Did you not catch that from my first couple of posts?

I couldn't say. If played in an RPGA game, well, the rules allow it. As written. Maybe (well, pretty much for sure) they did not mean to do it that way, but that's what they wrote. The point, of course, is not to defend the rule as written but to, per WotC's request, offer feedback on the class.

Yeah, but this is a really bad error. Unless you say otherwise, "weapons" includes ranged and melee. And the poison rule only talk about "weapons" and ammunition, but never restrict weapons to melee only (or maybe melee and thrown is more accurate when thinking about the fix).

You are applying real-world logic to the rules. Not unreasonably, mind you, but still, just reading the rules, nothing says you must apply poison to ammunition for a ranged weapon to be able to deliver the poison. It would be better to fix the rules now than to try and defend flawed rules later.

    Assassin Feedback

Sigh... One more time: As written, there is no proper distinguishing between melee weapons and ranged weapons. Any time the term "weapon" is used without some sort of qualifier, it always means either melee or ranged. For example: "Apply the carrion crawler brain juice poison to your weapon...

As written, you are attacking with the blowgun. Sure, you use ammunition to attack with the blowgun, but that does not change the fact that you are attacking with the blowgun. A +1 blowgun gets +1 to attack and damage with the darts. In the same way, one could argue that , as written, the...

    Assassin Feedback

Right, but, as written, one could use the poison on the blow gun and use it all encounter. That's not what is intended, I agree, but that's what it says. It needs to specify that you can put the poison on a melee weapon or ranged weapon ammunition or else the rules leave a gap that a truck...

Another note sent off to WotC: Some poison powers have odd wording that makes for weird game effect. Such as: Carrion Crawler Brain Juice Poison Level 1 Purple, oily carrion crawler brain juice can cause sluggishness and paralysis. Assassin Poison Power (Consumable F Poison): Minor Action...

    PE: Assassin Spoilers

Technically, a ranged weapon is a weapon, so one could use poison with it and make it last the whole encounter. Seems odd, though.

That would take another action. The sidebar makes it clear that the intent is the assassin can choose to kill or not, but the poison write-up takes that choice away, at least as written. I'm actually fine with it as written, but then the sidebar conflicts with it and I assume the sidebar is...

I also sent: Several of the poisons described here have special effects which begin with “If this attack reduces the target to 0 hit points, the target is not killed but is instead knocked unconscious and …” ... All of this assumes, of course, that the assassin leaves the target alive at 0 hit...
