It's really awesome to see so much female representation as co-authors on this book! :)

D&D 5E WotC's Jeremy Crawford on D&D Races Going Forward

That'll be really awesome, Danny, thank you! :) Phonetically, I think a close approximation would be "Dah Gee-ah (but Gee-ah is pronounced quickly together if that means sense?)", something like that, hope that helps! Yeah, that's a really helpful link! (though I'm not sure of the meanings of...

D&D 5E WotC's Jeremy Crawford on D&D Races Going Forward

Well, Ares was/is an evil, cowardly god of war, and was insatiable in battle, violent, and destructive, and was known as a man-slaugtherer. So if you have a problem with a depiction of Gruumsh, an evil god, influenced and inspired by Ares...

D&D 5E WotC's Jeremy Crawford on D&D Races Going Forward

The entire stylisation evokes ancient Chinese, and from there Japanese, cultural trappings. It's not only the topknot, but that does play a part in it. What makes it problematic is that all of this is exclusively the imagery of an evil, militant, conquering people. If the hobgoblin and by...

D&D 5E WotC's Jeremy Crawford on D&D Races Going Forward

That type of stylisation that depicts hobgoblins is exclusively for an evil, militant, conquering people, that's quite problematic. Oni are different because they're essentially demons, rather than a people.

D&D 5E WotC's Jeremy Crawford on D&D Races Going Forward

On the other hand though, it is troubling that this sort of styling and depiction is used to depict what's ostensibly an evil race, and as noted above as militant conquerors. So, hopefully some measure of thorough even consideration can applied here as well :)

That topknot hair style, and the armour, also looks a lot like ancient Chinese styling, and what you find in wuxia. It is troubling that this sort of styling and depiction is used to depict what's ostensibly an evil race.

Excellent points, and excellent post! I fear Asians, as well as other minorities, have always experienced racism, it's just that the degrees vary, and whether these groups fit the current definition of a model immigrant. The term can be something that is well intentioned and is meaningful in...

D&D General WotC’s Official Announcement About Diversity, Races, and D&D

As something positive with regards to the Vistani, you could title the next planar book Vistani's Guide to the Multiverse, where they could guide travellers throughout the planes, and drop little known lore and secrets about the planes :)

In my example, it also proves some Asians are more frightened of other people than cops, because our cops also don't go about killing people for no reason, there's no reason to be frightened of them as they're generally motivated to do good for society. So it's not about my skin color, as other...

D&D 5E WotC's Jeremy Crawford on D&D Races Going Forward

In the current climate, not really at all. In fact, Asians have been vilified and abused by others simply because of ignorance and fear, as in the case of coronovirus, or even because of success in other times. This also hasn't been helped by the media. As an Asian, I haven't really been on this...

That's an excellent idea, truth to be told! It might also give greater meaning and depth to current "sidekicks" as well, although I'm not really fond of the meaning behind that term. And it might also help get the roleplaying juices going if either the player or the DM plays the other character...

D&D 5E WotC's Jeremy Crawford on D&D Races Going Forward

You know, with everything this is about, I'd love to see more to do with friendships and relationships in game, irrespective of who they are with. Not simply influencing spells, but about creating genuine friendships in game, swaying others through conviction or example of a different path...

D&D 5E WotC's Jeremy Crawford on D&D Races Going Forward

Yes, it's a despicable thing, and I was referencing the US in part in the examples in my post, and it's a despicable thing everywhere else in the world, there's a reason so many corporations have third-world countries make their items. Thanks heaps for the suggestion!
