    Potential Hasbro and Mattel Merger?

What this is probably mostly about is that Hasbro just gained most of the Disney Princess line because Disney thought that Mattel was mismanaging it. Disney Princess is larger than any other Hasbro brand and this corporate conquest caused many Mattel executives to quit and even jump ship to...

The Day Has Come! It's An OGL! And A Store To Buy & Sell D&D 5E Products!

I definitely think you might be right. If the increase in Fantasy Grounds participation is any indicator, Official D&D branding is a big seller. At least, it will be until the DMG market gets too saturated for most of the products to stand out in.

The Day Has Come! It's An OGL! And A Store To Buy & Sell D&D 5E Products!

I'm also curious, but I certainly don't want to be the first to demonstrate what triggers those boundaries.

The Day Has Come! It's An OGL! And A Store To Buy & Sell D&D 5E Products!

Definitely a no-brainer if you're dead-set on making Forgotten Realms products, because otherwise you'd have no other options. If you're just using the OGL and SRD5 though you could still just sell your product else-where instead. I'm assuming DriveThru is taking 35% in my calculations, which...

The Day Has Come! It's An OGL! And A Store To Buy & Sell D&D 5E Products!

Ouch! Good catch, Merric! So to justify selling on DMG you need to see a 30% increase in sales over what you'd see if you just made it an OBS exclusive.

The Day Has Come! It's An OGL! And A Store To Buy & Sell D&D 5E Products!

No, there was no infrastructure for the DMsGuild. It's just a reskin of the OneBookShelf sites like DriveThruRPG and RPGNow. You can even log in with your DriveThruRPG account and find your entire OBS/DriveThru library there. You're literally just giving up 23% of your revenue to sell it on...

Which Games Were Most Played On FANTASY GROUNDS In 2015? (Hint: D&D!)

Not so much a concern but that I just didn't know what those numbers actually meant until Nylanfs defined games for me as "sessions."

Sword Coast Legends Community Packet 3 Delayed and Bundled

It's more likely that WotC has them contractually obligated to put out a Rage of Demons tie-in, and Digital Extremes already paid WotC and budgeted for N-Space to work on it anyway. At this point, if they don't deliver it may mean more grief than just the money they lose on completing the project.

Sword Coast Legends Community Packet 3 Delayed and Bundled

Good news to SLC owners: https://forums.swordcoast.com/index.php?/topic/10029-please-stop-saying-cp3-and-its-features-are-locked-behind-a-dlc-cost/?p=99212 Apparently they're making RoD free for everyone who ever buys SCL. I think WotC and Digital Extremes probably have this written off as a...

Which Games Were Most Played On FANTASY GROUNDS In 2015? (Hint: D&D!)

This seems like slightly flawed methodology or at least terminology. Smite Works is counting the number of "games" run each month, but game is a very vague term here. If they mean games to be "campaigns" then this is problematic because each additional month that a campaign extends into means it...

Sword Coast Legends Community Packet 3 Delayed and Bundled

Yes, for those of you who pre-ordered and had to wait through the delayed release, or those of you who paid to attend the Gen Con WotC events. Hard to say how what proportion of those people make up the current user-base. I'm also not sure how many of those Mea Culpa coupons will actually cut...

Sword Coast Legends Community Packet 3 Delayed and Bundled

Today N-Space announced that Community Packet 3 is going to be released as part of the Rage of Demons downloadable content. https://swordcoast.com/content/scl-news-update-cp3-and-rage-demons So not only will you have to wait longer for the features they promised, you may have to spend...

    Failing Forward

No disagreement from me on that point. I'm not sold on the term "Succeed at a Cost" like Jon is, but I am frustrated by how muddied the original Fail Forward term has become. I agree that using only Success at a Cost instead causes people to suspect that failure is no longer a possible outcome...

    Failing Forward

Nothing about what the author wrote actually indicates he believes what you're saying he believes. And I know him, so I can safely say you're completely misconstruing his intent. In fact, what you've written above is both irrelevant and incorrect. Knowing the possible outcomes is not...

    Failing Forward

Remember how I said someone should write a guide on what Fail Forward is and how to use it? Well here you go, thanks to Jon Lemich: http://www.runagame.net/2015/12/fail-forward.html More to the point is the mantra that follows it: "Nothing" is not a consequence of failure. It's literally...

    D&D 5E How To Make a Good D&D Videogame

As Zard just pointed out, there's plenty of great turn-based games on console and PC that are also somewhat popular right now. There are also previous D&D games that have taken table-top game mechanics and authentically adapted them to real-time gameplay. Obviously that shift alters the way the...

    D&D 5E How To Make a Good D&D Videogame

To answer darjr's original question, Arena of War claimed to be "based on the D&D Next rules." Seriously. When I mentioned that last spring and suggested that "based on the 5th Edition D&D Rules" probably didn't mean much for Sword Coast Legends, people reacted like I was speaking blasphemy...

Sword Coast Legends free to play for the weekend on Steam

Jester Canuck: No disagreement from me. It sounds like we're pretty much on the same page here. I also wonder why they didn't bother waiting for their third community pack to finish, and find it disturbing that they haven't announced when the RoD DLC will be ready yet. This free weekend seems...

Sword Coast Legends free to play for the weekend on Steam

It doesn't necessarily benefit them, but at this point it can't really hurt them either. They participate in these free weekends in the belief that with no barrier to entrance, people curious about the game who haven't purchased it yet will try it. That certainly happened. Then the hope is those...

    D&D 5E How To Make a Good D&D Videogame

AaronOfBarbaria: The problem is that Sword Coast Legends isn't terrible. Because in this day and age, truly terrible games aren't avoided. Instead they're spectacles that generate reddit discussions and ridiculous videos on twitch. Sword Coast Legends is just somewhat mediocre and not what many...
