Is Pathfinder meant to be "boutique D&D?"

There is nothing I want less than Paizo to give up its more unique identity and just drop books for 5e. I don't want to play 5e. My group mostly doesn't want to play 5e (the few who do can manage fine in that regard). Yet, we're weary of the flaws of PF after many years of playing it, despite...

Pathfinder 2E Pathfinder 2 Core Layout

If I had to guess why the book did this so often, it was probably to save page space. The book is already 640 pages long. I imagine if they didn't do this, the book could have easily jumped more than a hundred pages of text that is basically copypasted from elsewhere in the book (like, say...

Pathfinder 2E Lets Read and Review Pathfinder 2E

Definitely put me on the "Love It" category for classes. The level of choice just excites me, and like you noted, the split between combat and non-combat feats is something I can't praise enough. Too often it was easy to worry if this feat that could help you do better in your skill of choice...

Pathfinder 2E Lets Read and Review Pathfinder 2E

Worth noting the free +2 can cancel the ability flaw if you wish. You can also optionally take an additional two -2 flaws for one additional +2 boost. You can't use them to raise any attribute above 12 or to drop any attribute below 8 at this stage, but you could use them to turn one of your...

Pathfinder 2E Low-level Wizards in PF2 - are they still underpowered?

Fun note, it's almost functionally the same as Haste at any level below 7th. It adds the step option for an action, is only one action to use, specifies ally vs creature, and is one round vs a minute, but is otherwise the same. 7th level is when Haste lets you buff up to 6 creatures, so it's...

Pathfinder 2E Low-level Wizards in PF2 - are they still underpowered?

I mean, not all of them are that. One is literally a single action Haste Cantrip called Allegro, which is really potent for a Cantrip.

Pathfinder 2E Low-level Wizards in PF2 - are they still underpowered?

I mean, every single time you gain a new spell level, most cantrips go up an extra die in damage value. That 1d4+mod cantrip is 2d4+mod at level 3 and 3d4+mod at level 5. And keep in mind, you can crit on Ray of Frost for double damage. That doesn't seem that bad.

Pathfinder 2E Complexity vs. Depth -- A Look Inside Pathfinder 2nd Edition

Not a lot of calculation. Shield only takes damage if you choose to block damage and it goes over your hardness. There's a metric ton of shield options for all levels. Whether magical or just made of progressively stronger materials. Besides, you can easily repair a damaged shield so long as...

Pathfinder 2E Complexity vs. Depth -- A Look Inside Pathfinder 2nd Edition

But the 1E shields didn't let you literally block damage from a successful hit. The basic shields should work at a lower level. When the time comes to start upgrading things, you can up the damage you block per attack and how much said shields can endure beyond that.

Pathfinder 2E Complexity vs. Depth -- A Look Inside Pathfinder 2nd Edition

It is worth noting that there are better shields later on as well, with more hardness and HP. Two shields that would avoid some of these issues are the Orichalcum Shield which avoids being destroyed once a day due to the material's time-bending properties (Orichalcum items also fully restore in...

Pathfinder 2E Pathfinder Second Edition: I hear it's bad - Why Bad, How Bad?

I mean, two levels over you would only be +2 more (bar anything higher in proficiencies). Certainly more of a challenge (harder to hit, more accurate), but not necessarily impossible.

Pathfinder 2E The Age Of Ashes Player's Guide Is Out

The standard for Backgrounds seems to be two stat increases (one stat increase a choice between two stats, one free choice), two skills being trained (one relevant skill to your background, and one Lore Skill of information relevant to said background), and a skill feat of said skill you're...

Pathfinder 2E What are you most looking forward to when it comes to Pathfinder Second Edition?

No doubt, the Action Economy will be getting a lot of love and attention for how it shakes the game up. Death does seem interesting, to be sure. Even the risk of injuries from revival has potential. I'm curious to see how many will try for the Ritual casting to resurrect if they lack a proper...

    Is Pathfinder 2 Paizo's 4E?

I mean, is LFQW as bad as it was in 3E in a game where your melee character can German Suplex the Tarrasque through a mountain, swim across an entire Ocean with very few breaks like they were Beowulf, and leap up directly into the Dragon's face and smash their skulls in? Where your great warrior...

    Pathfinder 2E Pathfinder 2 vs D&D 5E pagecounts

538 pages? I thought it was 640 pages. That's what Amazon says. Still, that's pretty neat if that's the case.

Pathfinder 2E What are you most looking forward to when it comes to Pathfinder Second Edition?

Oh definitely, the shield mechanic has potential, more than just getting the AC bonuses (which are nice of course). Given the Champion can pick their Shield as the host for their Righteous Ally, I'm imagining they can do the most overtly crazy things with the mechanic. I can see why, all three...

Pathfinder 2E What are you most looking forward to when it comes to Pathfinder Second Edition?

Oh definitely, the action economy is going to make things a lot more enjoyable. Not only the three actions, but the numerous options for reactions. I once did a Wizard in PF1e focused on Abjuration and Counterspelling, that could definitely work reaction wise. Spellcasting does give you...

Pathfinder 2E What are you most looking forward to when it comes to Pathfinder Second Edition?

Well, it's about time for a brand new RPG, Pathfinder Second Edition. We've spent several months getting various bits of info, spoilers, teases, and other such things. I'm personally very excited, and thought a topic discussing the aspects we're most interested in/excited for could be fun. So...

    Is Pathfinder 2 Paizo's 4E?

As a PF1 fan who absolutely hates 4E...I want to play PF2e so badly. While I've loved my years with Pathfinder since our group ditched 4E (and thank God for that), the game is starting to really show its flaws with age. Whether it's one of the DMs finding building encounters a pain, another DM's...

    Similarities 4E PF2?

I find these kinds of topics amusing, because I think PF2e will be fantastic and I also really disliked my time with D&D 4th Edition. Not denying there may be some shared elements somewhere in the system, but not to enough of a degree to remind me of the less than positive experience of 4E on...
