    D&D (2024) I have the DMG. AMA!

So what does the lore dictionary (or the rest of the DMG) say about Asmodeus?

Like the introduction to the PHB? "Naturally, every attempt has been made to provide all of the truly essential information necessary for the game: the skeleton and muscle which each DM will flesh out to create the unique campaign. You will find no pretentious dictums herein, no baseless limits...

    BrOSR

The impression I get of the current "official" style is "Seattle Swashbuckling & Socializing," but that could be a slanted view. :)

D&D General You Can Now Make Greyhawk Stuff On DM's Guild!

It was only Birthright, which was going to get repackaged as a hardcover, and based on what I recall of the planned supplements, have a greater focus on the Shadow World.

D&D General You Can Now Make Greyhawk Stuff On DM's Guild!

It was also one of the first victims of WotC's "One Game, One System, Two (at Most) Settings" philosophy of the late 90s/early 2000s, with a major relaunch planned for 1998 being scuttled at the last minute.

D&D General Greyhawk to Faerun and Beyond: A Multiversal D&D Lore Book Is Coming This Fall

On reflection, based on the descriptions from the novels, it feels particularly addictive and seductive, prone to producing fanatical and idolatrous devotion to 'the magic.' That fits in with certain perspectives on Krynn. ;)

D&D General Greyhawk to Faerun and Beyond: A Multiversal D&D Lore Book Is Coming This Fall

Dragonlance should have a more 'tidal' and/or 'theurgic' feel, given the moons'/gods' influence on High Sorcery.

D&D (2024) Dungeon Master's Guide Bastion System Lets You Build A Stronghold

At this point, I'm convinced that the only way to play D&D is to play it 'wrong', at least according to some authority on the subject. :)

    D&D General Godless Settings

My mistake; it's in his Red Box writeup (Domains and Denizens, pp. 46-47), which rewrites the Darklords entry somewhat: "In life Anhktepot was a 13th-level priest of the sun god Ra, and he still wields the power of that position (although it isn't Ra who grants his spells ...)."

    D&D General Godless Settings

Thanks for the citations, Voadam. Minor nitpick: It is specified that it is not from Ra, though.

D&D (2024) Dungeon Master's Guide Bastion System Lets You Build A Stronghold

It's been showing up (with genre-specific flavoring) in the redone Companions for the Adventure Edition. Jacksonian heresy! :)

    D&D General Godless Settings

It was ambiguous; the writeup for Alfred Timothy in the Black Box says it appears that he's getting his spells from the 'wolf god', rather than Ravenloft itself. (Yagno Petrovna, by contrast, was always clearly getting his spells from Ravenloft/the Dark Powers.) Two possibilities were suggested...

Dragonlance New Dragonlance Novels from Weis and Hickman in 2026

I only glanced at the last bit, but the impression I got is "probably, but there's a backdoor in to let them happen if we change our minds or never get to do anything else."

    Ravenloft Novel Coming in 2025

Reminds me of something one TSR designer said on Usenet about thirty years ago when someone was making a similar accusation, combined with the usual "T$R" talking points: "If TSR was interested in going the WotC route [this was just after WotC had shut down their entire RPG department] and just...

Dragonlance New Dragonlance Novels from Weis and Hickman in 2026

Thanks for the confirmation. I have anecdotal evidence that suggest things started falling off midway through the original module series, based on seeing massive quantities of DL9 and DL12-14--still in shrinkwrap--at a local game store in North Dakota in the early 2000s. Is that a fluke, or does...

Optimus Prime and Ultra Magnus. I admire Optimus, but identify a bit more with Magnus.

    Ravenloft Novel Coming in 2025

Moving Soth to Ravenloft was getting him out of the corner: Post-Legends Dragonlance was pretty much forbidden territory awaiting the hoped-for return of Weis & Hickman to the setting, and AIUI, the "Dargaard Keep" adventure in DL16 more or less wrote Soth out of the setting anyway. He got to do...

D&D General Who are the iconic NPCs in each D&D campaign setting?

Ravenloft original. He actually shows up as a Mordentshire local in I10 The House on Gryphon Hill, then gets some judicious retconning when the Ravenloft campaign setting is created, and doesn't acquire his Oeridian background until the December 1992 release of RQ3 From the Shadows. Though many...

D&D General Who are the iconic NPCs in each D&D campaign setting?

Ravenloft is easy: Strahd von Zarovich (foundation stone of the setting) and Rudolph van Richten ('voice' for the heroic side).

Astarion From Baldur's Gate 3 Appears in the 2024 Player's Handbook

    Yes, there's a reason I describe Greenwood's Realms as "60s/70s Fantasy." :)
