    Grade the Fate/Fate Core System

My general take is that Fate either clicks or it doesn't. Aspects work or they don't. Because of that, it's a system I worry about having the "right" players, ie, players that click with it. Which makes me more leery of running games in that system (And I've yet to be able to play it). That's...

    D&D (2024) Sorcerer (Playtest 7)

I would loosen the restriction on recharge to if the Sorcerer has less than half of their sorcery points remaining. Sure, it might mean the odd "I have one more than half my Sorcery Points, quick I'll make a spell slot", but it's such a trickle of points, and Innate Sorcery at level 7 will...

    Grade the Fate/Fate Core System

Ah, disappointing. I assume the "just make stuff up" element of treknobabble would go well with that. But that is the thing about Fate. As much as the system makes sense to me, I worry that it needs the right vibe and players.

    Grade the Fate/Fate Core System

My first FATE game was Strands of Fate, which didn't work well for me. But I do love Fate Core. I've run both full Core and Accelerated. I've debated running Atomic Robo as a Star Trek game, the brainstorming session is kinda like Star Trek technobabble.

    D&D (2024) Sorcerer (Playtest 7)

Honestly, at least Sorcerers are playing the same resource game that Clerics, Wizards, Bards and Druids are playing. Warlocks insist on causing multiclassing issues and pretending Eldritch Blast is a full class.

    D&D (2024) Sorcerer (Playtest 7)

Let me be clear, overall I think this version of the Sorcerer is good, a solid improvement on the 2014 version. For me, Sorcerers have had two main problems: 1. Tight resources, mainly spells and metamagics known are restrictive. 2. Establishing an identity seperate from the Warlock and Wizard...

    D&D 5E Will Baldur's Gate 3 Change D&D?

A few things, like Barrelmancy and using shove + verticality aren't likely to make it into home games, 'cause Theatre of the Mind and most battle maps don't really lend themselves as much to that. If anything, as a DM I'm more likely to employ barrelmancy ... 5e Tucker's Kobolds here we go. And...

    D&D (2024) Sorcerer (Playtest 7)

I did note that the default Focus for the Sorcerer equipment package is now a crystal, which ... honestly is kinda fine. VSM components are just a part of DnD and a part of what makes DnD spellcasting what it is. And having some odd crystal as a focus works for Sorcerers. The key to me, is in...

To be fair ... this isn't their takeaway, this is what they have gotten from survey feedback.

D&D (2024) Are you going to buy the new 2024 D&D Core Books

There isn't? That's disappointing, I've stored up some store credit at my LGS, was planning on the alt-cover combined package that I just sorta guessed they'd do.

Yeah, this is where I'd want the spell, the other d8 cantrips generally have a control effect (Slowing or preventing OAs) and Firebolt still reigns supreme for damage, but now Sorcerous Burst is a solid damage dealer.

    D&D (2024) Sorcerer (Playtest 7)

Hmmm, would Sorcery Incarnate allow the same metamagic twice? IE, Heightened Spell gives one target disadvantage, so if I cast Hold Person using a third level slot, could I use heighten twice so both targets have disadvantage on saves?

    D&D (2024) Fighter (Playtest 7)

So, new subclass, the Brawler. Still digesting that one, and the EK has some poor wording given how the video described it. But, gotta love the new Tactical Mind and Tactical Shift features. Both expand the use of Second Wind, with Tactical Mind allowing you to use it on ability checks (and...

    D&D (2024) Sorcerer (Playtest 7)

Really liking Innate Sorcery. But the level 7 feature: can use two metamagics at a time ... you mean all the metamagics you know until 10th level? I do miss the flex slot that could change every long rest. New twin spell is fine. This is probably the best way to do this, I like you can cheat...

Same for the Sorcerer. They aren't what I'd have picked (the Xanathar ones need some TLC IMO, guess I've got to wait for the 2025 Expanded Player Options book for that grumble), but you've got the Order and Chaos picks, PHB Psionics and the classic Draconic Sorcerer. It's a solid lineup.

Note that in the actual printing of the 2024 PHB, anything from Tasha's will just be reprinted, so the Sorcerer will have the Aberrant and Clockwork subclasses reprinted in it. And, tbh, the UA is naturally going to draw in the more invested DnD players that probably have Tasha's already.

No Necromancer. I'm surprised, Wizard subclasses are Abjurer, Evoker, Diviner and Illusionist.
