    Blue Dragons: Sand or Sea

Desert for me. There's always been something so visually appealing about a blue dragon in the desert to me. It's probably got something to do with the color contr- ... Oh nuts....

Sorcerer warlock heritage and maybe even psion heritage

I'd rather have warlocks as standalone classes for a number of reasons: - The warlock has vastly different fluff than the sorcerer. The warlock is a character that has willingly made a pact with a powerful entity to gain his powers. The sorcerer is a character that is born with his powers due...

[Playtest 2] Playtest Report of a Necromancer

Well, we had another run tonight. Our elf rogue didn't show up, but thankfully another player did. He decided it would be fun to try out the warlock, and after a quick read over the playtest documents he decided to go for a high elf warlock with the spy background and the lurker speciality...

    Combat Superiority and Damage/HP bloat

I'd be okay with every class being able to use the maneuvers combat superiority allows for. Push, knock down, you name it. However, I do think that fighters should be the only class to be able to use them in conjunction with their attacks. That's their special thing and I don't want any other...

    New Content

I would love to see a couple of new classes like the ranger and the paladin.

    Rogues: Schemes, Backgrounds, and Styles

Assassin is actually likely as its own class at this moment, but good point.

If we have specialities, why do we need a plethora of classes?

What if I want to play a paladin type that's a sharpshooter? A fighter seems like a nice class to start with, and I'll just take the sharpshooter speciality and we're set. Except now I don't have any holy abilities. I could take the priest background, but that doesn't give me any holy...

    Warlock: Eldritch Blast

It doesn't have a bonus to damage from any source, such as weapon attacks and some spells do. Eldritch Blast deals 3d6 damage at first level, which averages out to about 10-11 damage. A fighter with a Greataxe and 16 STR deals 1d12+3 damage, which averages out to about 9-10 damage. An elven...

Alternatives to Human Ability Score Boosts

Here's what I'd go for. Human Attribute bonus: +2 to any one score. Adaptable: Gain training in any one bonus skill at first level. Skilled: Your bonus from being trained in a skill begins at a +4 instead of a +3, and goes up to +8 instead of +7.

Warrior vs. Wizard - Reality vs. the Hacker

If nothing else, I like the idea of characters with the Fly spell having to concentrate to keep aloft.

    Alternatives to Thug Tactics

You could have it require another creature use an action to set up the sneak attack.

    New Backgrounds/Specialities

I think a Traveller/Wanderer background would be awesome. Nothing like a good old mysterious stranger! Insight, Societal Lore and Survival sound about right. The trait could have something to do with finding your way around when travelling or being able to get between places faster. The most...

    Making races

Gnome Size: Small Speed: 25 ft Low-Light Vision: As the elven ability Curiosity: Gain training in one extra skill at first level Trickster: Gain a free minor illusion spell from the wizard spell list. Once per day you may cast an illusion spell you know as a reaction after being hit by an enemy...

    [Playtest 2] HP thresholds

Base it off the creature's level compared to yours. Creatures have levels now, so there's no reason it shouldn't work. "Creatures one or more levels below you do not get a saving throw." Something along those lines.

    HP Threshold Alternatives

Since monsters have specific levels now, I don't see why we couldn't just base it off that. "Monsters that are X or more levels below you do not get a saving throw." Simple and straightforward. Most of the time players will have some sort of idea as to how powerful monsters are, anyways, as...

    [Playtest 2] HP thresholds

I also don't feel as bad asking the DM if the monster is currently under my threshold as asking him if its maximum HP is below my threshold.

[Playtest 2] Playtest Report of a Necromancer

We began our adventure at a tavern after heeding a call for adventurers (super original, but we'll cut the DM some slack since it's just a playtest). We began by some lofty introductions, and the very different characters were quick to get some good chemistry going. The human sorcerer had made...

[Playtest 2] Playtest Report of a Necromancer

So, my group and I finally got together to play the second batch of the playtest. I was a player this time around, and our group was composed of the following characters: - A Lightfood Halfling Fighter. He had the Thug background and the Survivor speciality, and the slayer fighting style. - A...

    [Playtest 2] HP thresholds

I don't really think there has been enough discussion on the hp thresholds a lot of spells and abilities have in the playtest so far. I'm not a big fan of them as they're currently implemented, but in the interest of fairness let's look on some of the positives they provide. They're simple and...
