D&D 5E Mage Hand and the No Good, Low Down, Dirty Rotten Arcane Trickster

It's not game-breaking to pick locks or disarm traps at range. Let the player characters be cool. That said, you could rule situationally that he has disadvantage. He's been blinded. The room is full of smoke. Carnivorous cockroaches are eating him alive while he's trying to escape a locked...

San Diego, CA - 5E DM LFG - play 1/mo. weekends

Update---I have three players now, and I'm looking for one or two more. If you are interested but on the fence about contacting me to play, here's a document to entice you---the campaign record for the other current game I am running, set in the same world. :)

D&D 5E Tell me about your Homebrew 5E campaign setting

My homebrew 5E setting is inspired by Arabian Nights, al-Qadim, Dark Sun, and Crusader history. I don't meddle with RAW for flavor's sake, but I do have a conversation with players about where their characters fit into the setting. For example, a player recently rolled a druid, but we agreed...

    D&D 5E Would you change a monster's hit points mid-fight?

Sure. If the PCs are winning, victory is assured, and the boss has few hit points remaining, I'm not against fudging the results to end the fight sooner rather than later.

San Diego, CA - 5E DM LFG - play 1/mo. weekends

Hi all. I'm a DM who is jonesing to run more 5th edition D&D. I am 43 years old and I have DMed since 1987. I have played all editions except first, and so far the fifth edition is my favorite. I teach at an area college and have a family, and I play in other games. I prefer running homebrew...

    Eriador: Dominion

The Setting The game is set in a reboot of our 3rd edition campaign world. Enough has changed that we have simply agreed that the 4E version of things is an alternate reality or something. Whatever. Not important. What follows is information for the players to differentiate the old setting from...

Who Goes to Cons These Days?

San Diego ComicCon. Mindblowingly large. RPG stuff happens there too.

How do you plan role playing?

I plan combat encounters in a completely different manner from role-playing "encounters". For combat, I think about what would be fun to play from a gamist perspective---what monsters, what environmental challenges, and what rewards. For role-playing, I create NPCs and I give them agendas. I...

    That's fantastic. Sold.

Help! I need a rules-lite super hero RPG

Sure! Let's do two. I'd say Captain America and Thor, but since it can be argued endlessly what their particular powers are, not to mention the fact that they are veteran heroes, let's say "a mortal hero like Captain America" and an "immortal hero like the Mighty Thor." :)

Help! I need a rules-lite super hero RPG

DC/BoH was right out once I saw that action resolution is tied to a chart. No way. :p I do like the d10s though.

Help! I need a rules-lite super hero RPG

D20 fatigue is a good way to phrase the way I feel about 3E. I'd be down with a supers game that ran on the 4E system, but alas, WotC hasn't made one. :)

So what's the most powerful combo in Rifts?

My friends and I enjoyed playing Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles in high school, a super hero RPG which used RIFTS game mechanics, but we were done with RIFTS proper shortly after character creation. Everyone went home and made their own characters using whatever sourcebooks were available, and...

Help! I need a rules-lite super hero RPG

I'm glad to see the M&M love; in fact some friends of mine play M&M and they enjoy it. I am also thankful for any comments on that system, as I may use it in the future. I think I'm kind of burnt out on d20 systems, though, now that I think about it. 8 solid years of 3E kind of wore me out...

Help! I need a rules-lite super hero RPG

Thanks for the replies, everyone. I am perusing your suggestions. That said, anything that ties action resolution to a chart is right out. I hate referencing charts :p

Help! I need a rules-lite super hero RPG

I've been perusing Mutants & Masterminds, but I think there's too much going on there for me to bother with. I just left 3E for 4E D&D and I'm not thrilled about going back to the standard d20 system and all of its crunchy numbers for a supers game. But the system can't be Marvel Super Heroes...

[D&D 4E] Looking for players and/or DM in San Diego, CA

01/15/10 We have a DM, a group and a campaign now. Eberron 4E, lvl 2, and so far 3 players: a swarm druid, a bard of some sort, and a centered path monk (from the DDI, courtesy of the PHB3). We'd love at least one more player, like maybe someone willing to roll a defender. :)

    Difficult Character and Player

The best thing to do when you have a problem like this is to have an open dialogue, in person, and discuss the difficulty that the player's character is causing for you. Ideally you'd have the conversation without other people around, so that the player doesn't feel ganged-up on. If you two are...
