    Gelatinous Cube Pills and Swarms!

These are some fantastic ideas, folks! I'm excited about my Gelatinous campaign setting, with the silly little critters littering cities everywhere! All that being said, I came up with an idea for a swarm based roughly on the Stirge Swarm and editing in stuff from the normal GC entry. This...

    Gelatinous Cube Pills and Swarms!

"It's true what they say: Cops and women don't mix. It's like eating a spoonful of Drano. Sure it'll clean you out, but it'll leave you hollow inside." -Frank Drebin

    Gelatinous Cube Pills and Swarms!

Not so sure about the garden idea, though if you want to use it for your own campaign, I won't stop you. Basically, GCs engulf and digest any organic matter they can get their hands on. This includes plants, which is why I'm wary of making them gardening implements. I also don't envision them...

    Gelatinous Cube Pills and Swarms!

Come to think of it, there's a ton of things this company could do if it has the right mix of wizards in R&D. Glowing cubes? Sure! They'd make an excellent accessory to medieval-themed rave parties. Heck, some underground wizards could make them a natural source of narcotics. Imagine a shady...

    Sustaining a power provokes OAs?

Perhaps "concept" was the wrong word. I meant "idea" or, a far better term, "mechanic." I wish I had the books in front of me for a quote, but I guess that will have to wait until either I get home or someone else beats me to it. EDIT: Ninja'd by Fion. In this case, I think the term "using"...

    Sustaining a power provokes OAs?

I would say no. You weren't adjacent to him at the time he used the power, you were adjacent at the time it was sustained. Sustaining itself is quite a different concept from the initial use of the power which is later sustained.

    Gelatinous Cube Pills and Swarms!

Hmm... I like the idea of the magebred GCs, though stomach acid would be too strong for any place other than the stomach itself. Ooh! Sudden idea while I was writing this response! They could be magically bred to have a ph-neutral layer of gelatin surrounding the sour acidic core. Any kids...

New Class Features in the DDI: Martial Powers Spoilers

Even so, the unbalanced feature would only be delayed a turn. Let's say that 20-Con fighter is hit by a level 1 minion (4 damage). He takes 4 damage and gains 5 temp HP. Other minions can no longer touch him until something ranged burns through the tHP first.

    Gelatinous Cube Pills and Swarms!

I've been giving some thought to a silly product based on the much-loved Gelatinous Cube (GC). Gelatinous Digestives! Tiny GCs (about the size of a marble, but obviously not the same shape :p ) that a company (as yet unnamed; suggestions?) breeds and sells as digestive aids. People swallow...

D&D 4E How does the 4E Barbarian Rage ability work?

I think a lot of people are missing the point of that little [W]. True, Barbarians don't have a striker-like extra damage mechanic (sneak attack, curse, quarry). The point is that they don't need it. They will be weilding huge two-handed weapons, providing an inherent boost to that [W] that...

Careful Attack/Sure Strike: A mathematical analysis

I think you missed the point. The proposal by Nifft doesn't add to your chance to hit until the beginning of your next turn, it adds it until the end. Some people are arguing the former to make OAs stronger, but the latter, proposed by Nifft, is a different concept entirely: while you still have...

Warlord: Knight's Move vs. Aid the Injured

Not surprisingly. The Inspired Recovery feat tends to do the job when they really need that saving throw, and Heal checks can help dole out saving throws anyway. Aid the Injured is also great for cases where Second Wind has already been used; assisted saving throws have no similar...

Warlord: Knight's Move vs. Aid the Injured

Thanks for all the advice, folks. We just reached level 5, so I decided to retrain Knight's move for Aid the Injured after all. And at level 6 I'll take training in Heal for those really gritty fights. After I get some better healing powers and healing equipment (thank you, AV!), I'll either...

    Prismatic Rays + Divine Oracle

I just noticed... isn't Terrifying Insight only available to Clerics? Or is it possible for a Cleric to multiclass into wizards enough to get Prismatic (edit) Beams? (don't have the books with me, can't look up the exact rules)

Careful Attack/Sure Strike: A mathematical analysis

I forget who first proposed this, so whoever can quote, please do so... But someone had the awesome idea of SS/CA granting +2 to attack the target until the end of the next round. This makes an attractive setup just before an Encounter or Daily. I think I'll adopt this houserule.

    The Videogame comparison

As for the "PARTICULARLY a PC" complaint, did you miss the part in 4e where encounters are PC-centered and the rules aren't concerned with PCs fighting one another?

    Perception clarification

One way you may consider this problem is from the player's point of view. Is this perception score particularly high for their level, or compared to the rest of the group? If so, why? Chances are, the player picked the correct stats and skill training to get to that point. It was a sacrifice...

    Prismatic Rays + Divine Oracle

I disagree. There are not separate attacks against each defense; rather, Prismatic Beams is a single attack compared to all three. The attack is against Will; it also happens to be against Reflex and Fortitude, but that's beside the point as far as Terrifying Insight is concerned. The single...

Spiked Shield = win (I think)

I would say no: you can use it as an off-hand weapon normally, but until you learned how to use that big spikey disc as a shield, you wouldn't benefit from it as one.

Forked Thread: What would you have done?

Maybe. And this may not be the response you want, but I have to wonder why, especially if they were using their powers so swingily, the skeletons (I'm assuming minions) didn't get dealt with sooner. A fire wizard and a dragonborn should have taken them out in the first couple of rounds, leaving...
