New Dungeoncraft: The Dungeons of Greenbrier Chasm

The traps are still very dangerous - this is just not the gygaxian 'kill and maim the players' mindset anymore. A war of attrition is perhaps the closer thing.

    Ampersand: Sneak Attack

And that's one of the big problems. Cultural exotism - the 'quaint exotic' cultural bits like katana or monks, they HAVE to be asian and not 'sully' D&D. But that's anotehr debate. And still hypocrite a bit, as non-english but european languages names are 'good enough'. btw, It,s not even...

    Ampersand: Sneak Attack

It's a preview, clearly incomplete on some things. Your 'only thieving' bit is a show of it.

    Ampersand: Sneak Attack

Sorry, but that is hypocrite. European and near names are good, but not foreign? Flamberge, main gauche, falchion, etc... it's good? But not shuriken or kwan do? Sounds like chauvinism a bit.

    Ampersand: Sneak Attack

Sounds a bit like, asia bad, occident good again. >> Not really, if we don't see the rules. But it can really screw things at random. And no, it don't removes excitement.

    Ampersand: Sneak Attack

BTW, classes are now in modern D&D as much set of skills and powers than a job path in itself. One should maybe stops thinking of such thing as 'restrictive' perhaps... it's a part of the whole. and we only saw a bit of the whole class.

How Many Adventures Can We Expect...?

To play the devil's advocate... The adaptations, because of the new rules and their designs and all that, may feels different than what the buyers remembered and all that... somes may be disapointed. Perhaps makeing at first, and to help the designers in warming up, original adventures...

WotC_PeterS: Charecter Names NEW: Town/Location Names

Still, gygaxian names ARE corny. (in general)

    Monk?

Nice ideas indeed, albeit not quite sure yet of which power source.... Martial, Divine or Psi...

    Monk?

Why, then, Monks HAVE to be asianised things, or Samurai.... Why it is bad then to have monks in faerun, who is NOT europe or asia, by example? Or goblinoid samurai as in Eberron (suggested)?

    conversion manual?

My point is that he seems very tied to specific rules, and can't seems to be able to imagine to make X (not hugely specific to world/rules, of course) character idea to Y (suitable) game/setting. Like, say, a classic swashbuckling rake. And also, that he seems to feel forced to rolls as...

    conversion manual?

Because you just can't adapt a character idea to rules, creatively weaving a character instead of just making a built.

    conversion manual?

You can bet ENWORLD or other websites will work on that soon after the game is out.

    conversion manual?

That's the whole problem. As much as you claim to be a roleplayer, you seems finaly quite gamist there. Seriously, you can't imagine a character concept that you couldn't make in many rpg? I have a few that I could make in D&D and other fantasy (or not fantasy!) rpg. Rules are not always so...
