    D&D 5E Dragon Player Characters

What's the point of mithril and adamant scales? I mean yeah I can see why a dragon would want to take one of those, but having both seems pointless. I mean in what instance would a dragon not take adamant instead of mithril?

    Levelable dragon character

Hmmmm focus is on breathe weapons and tanking... Hmmmmmm Well the simple fact is that it's hard to justify a breathe weapon every round. Especially if it's got more than a 2-3 square area covered. Even monster dragons have breath weapon use limits. I know you're not looking for perfect...

    [Homebrew]5e Arcane Tradition - Dabbler

Hmmmmmmm You've got dabbler and generalist mage effects but they don't mesh much, I don't see a lot of mechanical or thematic unity between the two concepts. Also Always prepared should probably either be 1+1/5, moved to a higher level, or something because frankly it's kind of a dick move to...

Trying to plot out my approach to a 5e incarnate.

The incarnate's main identity problem is that it exists largely to be an incarnum user it has little other connection to the world, in order to address this I see a some options: 1.) Incarnates as wardens: give them the ability to sense and interact with the flow of souls itself allowing them...

Creating an artifact that scales in ability with character level

A lot depends on what you want to do here, are you trying to make a neat magic item for the campaign that the players will want to keep using even as they level up? Then including one or two features that scale with proficiency modifier/level and don't offer a lot of good alternatives when the...

Mike Mearls and his Gamma World project!

Would they though? I mean let's face it random mutations are a very different sort of thing than psionics that are supposed to be part of a class or feat, a smattering of certain spell-like abilities would be entirely appropriate for mutations, while a psionic class would need to do something a...

Another take on the Ranger class...would love some (a lot) input/opinions/etc

Good point, make the climb and swim speeds kick in at level 3 then maybe?

Trying to plot out my approach to a 5e incarnate.

Ok added a bit of fluff text, tweaked some rules, essentia investment now caps at your proficiency bonus. The big problem still a class structure thing, but one possible idea did hit me. Variable duration melds: Some melds can just be swapped around all willy nilly but some melds can't. They...

Another take on the Ranger class...would love some (a lot) input/opinions/etc

My advice is to make the climb and swim speeds 20 ft at level 4, and then 30 at level 8, if the character has a relevant speed already (such as from a racial ability, they instead get a +10/+15 bonus to that speed).

Another take on the Ranger class...would love some (a lot) input/opinions/etc

I think the big issue with natural explorer is getting the good climb and swim speeds right out of the gate, it's not a huge deal but between the usual class front loading and all the other abilities wrap dup in natural explorer it's probably making it feel weightier than it really is.

Another take on the Ranger class...would love some (a lot) input/opinions/etc

Yeah that's always been my primary gripe with the Ranger, what they should have done is make favored enemy and favored terrain grant abilities inspired by, or relevant to those things, but not exclusive, so like maybe advantage on saves vs. illusions is useful against fey creatures, but not...

Another take on the Ranger class...would love some (a lot) input/opinions/etc

1.) Natural explorer seems a tad front loaded, I mean sure most of it isn't hyper potent Combat buffs, but it still seems like an awful lot at 1st level, especially the extra movement speeds. 2.) I got lost once or twice on what the core features and the path features were, and I still don't...

Trying to plot out my approach to a 5e incarnate.

Ok I think I'm finally getting to the point where I think I grok enough of the 5e system to start home brewing, and I want to try converting some of my favorite things from 3.5. First up Incarnum. Now Incarnum had a really good idea mechanically, and the lore was if not great it had at least...

    Homebrew: Arcane Legacy Sorcerer

hmmmmmmm Well the problem here is that, aside from changing the casting stat which seems like an extreme thing to change, this is ... not very in line with the lore as presented. Ok doubling the spells known, that's pretty wizard-like, potentially too powerful for a 1st level feature, but it's...

D&D 5E How would you replace stat bumps in feats?

.... Isn't that a really complicated way to do almost the exact same thing?

    Creating Stonehearth's Rabbitfolk in 5e

You could give them some sort of basic support powers based on druid cantrips for the geomancy.

D&D 5E How would you replace stat bumps in feats?

Without the ability to upgrade attribute scores, the characters are going to need some sort of advantage, more save profs seems like a good way to compensate them.

D&D 5E How would you replace stat bumps in feats?

If you take +1 to an attribute to be worth 1/2 a feat, then the quick and dirty method would simply to be to give them another feat that normally would have a stat boost.
